Steering wheel lamps on '06 TL?
Steering wheel lamps on '06 TL?
Are all the steering wheel lamps the same "white" color? The dealer just replaced the hands free telephone select and voice command lamps with amber color lamps. I thought these matched the other white lights on the steering wheel. Thanks.
Thanks for the quick response. You refer to pale green meaning all the steering wheel lamps? I thought they looked sort of whitish but that's just probably my poor vision. Nevertheless they all should be the same color - correct?

Replace the bulb.
Getting to the bulb is what takes a while!
I think I took like a couple hours to do it on my car and an hour to do it on shtewps.
You have to first remove the airbag cover by unplugging the battery first and undoing the connections at the bottom of the airbag, then taking the two torx screws from the sides out.
Then you can now remove the airbag.
Then now you have to remove the cruide control module assembly.
There's two philips screws you have to take out from behind and they were a PITA since you have like no room to put your screwdriver in (turning the wheel helps!).
Then when the module is out just twist the old bulb out and twist the new one in and do the reverse.

The reason your bulbs are "amber" is because your dealer forgot to replace the covers over the bulbs. Affectionately called "blue condoms" on our forum, these slip on over the bulb and give the glow a more whitish hue. Go back and explain this to them and make them redo it. They will act like they don't know what you are talking about, but TRUST me, they know what these blue covers are!
Anyone else: Is it worth the extra money to have Acura/Honda do it or should I take it to a local shop? (I have no desire to do it myself)

I don't know how much they charge for steering wheel bulbs but, for dashboard and heat seat bulbs, total around like 12 bulbs as I remember.
They wanted $300 from me.
$150 labor.
Steering wheel has different labor price.
Its not like change 1 bulb on the door, 1 on dashboard, 1 on steering for total of $150 labor...

I replaced all my steering bulbs since they were burned out, bought them straight from the Acura dealer and the have a blue cover. I also replaced the Heater switch bulbs also. I am no mechanic but following instructions on how to remove panels to gain access to the bulbs is very easy.
DON'T waste you money at the dealer to get them replaced, my dealer quoted me $120 labor and another $30 for the number of bulbs, they discounted me due to the amount of bulb quantity. Which I declined anyways since I planned to do them on my own, I just needed the new bulbs.
