Steering wheel Emblem?

Is there any way to get a new steering wheel emblem? The reason I ask is because mine has some of the chrome rubing off in a couple of places. If I can't take off the embleem and replace it, is it possible to get a new horn cover or what ever its called?

If so how would I replace that?

Thanks for the feed back.

Oh yeah 05 TL

Both vinnie and tripn's last posts are true.

New airbag or deal with it.

I had the same issue and got it replaced under warranty. Though they had to order the parts because they were replacing the airbag section.

I'm having the same problem. The dealer told me they couldn't replace it because it involved replacing the entire airbag. They told me they would reimburse me if i took it some where to get it refinished. Any idea what kind of place could do something like this. I'm in the Boston area.

Yeah I'd tape it off, sand it down and paint it with a model brush and whatever color paint you want.

this thread is odd because i was going to start one about the same thing...guess it's a new airbag or take the emblem off and repaint it..anyone know if it's just double sided tape or glue holding the A one the wheel?

i bought my 05 just a year ago and i noticed that clear stuff peeling off... 1st thought it was like that plastic covering they put on new surfaces that you peel off when you get it. i tried to peel it off the rest of the way and it was difficult and just kept flaking. i got it all off, but it has some fine scratches on it now. it looks better now with it all peeled off than with it peeling and it doesnt bother me now. good luck.

(i would be too nervous having the dealer messing with my airbag assembly anyway... i would deal with it even if it looked worse)

The dealer replaced my entire airbag because of the peeling emblem, no questions asked.

Sure did. Yesterday I just went thru any old posts that related to problems I have had and posted solutions. I noticed some of the problems I had seen and had fixed and yet to be answered on several threads.

Popular issue. Unfortunately the airbag is connected to that part.

I saw on ebay that someone is selling replacement airbag emblems. It looks like the real stock ones. There are plastic pegs that go through the leather and it must be melted on the other side to keep the emblem on. But what if I just break the old emblem off and superglue the new one on? Might be risky though. Might damage the leather.

I have the same issue, 05 tl. I am about to wet sand it, paint it AM or sumthing, way easier and cheaper then buying a brand new airbag.

Unrelated question just popped I to my head, there a user that was going to attempt to change his 05 steering wheel with a type-s wheel. Anyone know if he was successful? I think if it works, might aswell replace the whole wheel rather then pay to get th old version.

I have the same problem and the cause of said problem is rubbing armor-all like products on it. But to spend $40 on a eBay one is ridiculous. Model paint ftw!!

I know this thread is old as heck, but has anyone painted theirs or used the ebay unit. It's pretty clear from the post that its secured from the other side of the horn cover is that correct?

Has anyone taken it off or no?

It looks like the clear is peeling on mine.

Yea I ended up sanding mine down. and repainting it with some metallic model paint. its not perfect but does the job. and you dont have to keep looking at flaking chrome.

Thanks, How did you go about getting it off? Did you remove the cover, pop the emblem off or did you just paint it while it was on the car?
