Steering wheel change in the 06 TL?

Anyone know / notice that they may have changed the steering wheels in the 06 TL? My 06 is in the shop for service at the moment and the loaner they gave me (also an 06...but NBP...no navi)...had a different wheel.

It is textured with a bumpy surface / feel on the leather...my own 06 is completely smooth, kind of strange. It could also just be my imagination but the loaner feels slightly smaller diameter.

Isnt the 06 trimmed with either carbon fiber or the wood look to match the interior?

My white WDP has the wood trim inside.

The loaner NBP has the carbon fiber. I'll try and get a pic it's pretty hard to see though...

Yeah, I noticed that the '06 has a rougher steering wheel and is different from the '04 at least. My '06 loaner had no navi either. My '04 navi is very smooth leather. I like mine better than the '06.

Also I noticed that the background on the radio screen is blue in the '06 non navi. In the '04 non navi loaner I got, maybe even '05. The background didn't light up blue.

Can someone else comfirm that's true too?

CF and plood steering wheels are optional in 06.

Radio background is blue in 06 (it looks cheap and is hard to read).

Don't know about a new standard steering wheel for 06; I swear my last loaner was an 06 and it had a smooth steering wheel, but that was back in December, so I don't remember for sure. My 04 non-navi is smooth.

Nope, unless you pay for it.

Well I own an '06...and it has a smooth wheel..what I find odd is that the loaner '06 has a different / rough wheel, same year car. One is white with navi (smooth)..the loaner is black on black with no navi / carbon trim, and has the rough / textured wheel (I like my smooth one better). Mine also feels slightly thicker.

I have an 05 w/textured leather on the steering wheel. My buddy has an identical (in every way) 04 TL with completely smooth leather steering wheel. Always meant to ask this forum about that as I did not recall it being part of what was new for 05 (I know the 05 steering wheels do not have the TL logo encased in clear plastic)....

Could it be that all NAVI TLs have smooth steering wheels
and Non Navi w/ Textured?

Like how the Navi has Michellin and Non-Navi has Bridgestones on the '05?

Maybe this will be a good way to tell if someone has NAVI or not when you're sitting next to them at the light.

All my friends local have NAVI so I cant check this out, though.

I have owned two 05s. One was AM AT w/o Navi and smooth steering wheel. The second was SSM AT with/ Navi and textured wheel. Never asked the dealer as I like it better than the smooth.
