starting problems

just wondering how many times your engine turns before it starts? mine turns 2-3 or 3-4 times..for a 35+K car that sucks....my F150 starts with one click and it has 25k miles on it..whats up with that?

Lightbulb

I had a 2001 Cadillac STS that started instantly with a turn of the key.
My 2004 TL requires that you hold the key in the start position until "it catches". It took some getting used to, but I remember now to hold the key 'til it starts.:p

I guess it depends on the severity of your problem. Mine starts pretty quick or maybe I'm just used to Honda/Acura products. The TL is my 6th.
If it is something that you really think is a problem you can have it checked out. Otherwise, you are doing Mother Nature "a good turn"

Turn the key to the "almost start" position - wait til the gas gauge registers, then start. No problem

mine fluctuates, sometimes there are no problems, sometimes theres an idle period but either way the start up doesnt sound too clean. kinda embarassing when your showing off your car and your friend goes "can i start it up PLZ!" and after he goes "WTF?" you have to say .... yea its normal....

Ha, agree, it's true... I have the same feeling.

This is normal for 04TL. If doing search, there are a couple of threads talking about the same issue before.

This procedure works great! It is a lot less stressful on the starter. Could it be that the fuel pump pressurizes during the wait?
