Squeaky Brakes

Does anyone else have squeaky brakes with thier 6sp TL. The problem started for me around 1,000 miles and seems to keep getting worse (currently have 5,000 miles on it). Usually does it at low speeds under very light break pressure, mostly when driving around parking lots.

I've had other car brakes do this from time to time, however its quite religeous with my TL. Regardless, it still stops on a dime!

Yes. There have been a couple recent threads on this. I thought it had cleared up after 1800 miles, but yesterday mine was squealing again. Other than that, I'm very happy with the brakes. I'm debating whether or not to take it in or live with it a while longer. I haven't heard of any dealer solutions yet...

Talking

Your brakes need to be "seasoned". What you need to do is get you car up to 70 mph and then stand on the brakes as hard as your can. Do this about 4-5 times and then repeat at 80 mph 4-5 times. This burns off the "glaze" that has accumulated on your rotors. You will also need to keep you rotors from gettin wet until they can cool down on their own.

I'll give it a shot. If nothing else, it sounds like a lot of fun!

I have the same problem and I have 7,000+ miles. It can be annoying, but I'm getting used to them.

The "squeaky brakes" that you're impelling are due to the brake rust on the brembo brakes of the 6MT. I just had mine for only 2 weeks and heard that brakes squeaking on low speeds such as in a parking lot as one of you describe. Went to the dealer and and the brake pads cleaned. Dealer told me that once in a while it will squeak but it's normal. Only problem is ... it's embarrasing especially when people look at your new TL and hear that noise. Hopefully the problem will fade away.

The sqeaking of the brakes are normal and will never go completely away unless you change to another brake pad. The Seasoning (Bedding) of the brakes doesn't actually do anything for the sqeaks, but it is supposed to increase the performance of your brakes by removing any impurities or bumps in the pads. If you want to sqeaks to go away forever, you'd have to use a softer brake pad which will create even more dust. These brakes and pads were not made for mild braking, they are geared towards perfomance. Brake more aggressively and you won't hear any sqeaks.

The G35's have the same problems with their Brembo/pad combo.

Good suggestion on the "seasoning". I have always called it bedding in of the brakes. Basically you try to match the rotor and the pad together so there is uniform contact.

Also try flusing out the rotors and calipers with water when you wash the car, seems to help with my other cars.

do not flush the brakes when they are hot, its could be very bad. metal expands and contracts when hot and cold. doing this could possibly damage the breaks.

Duh! I guess I shouldn't assume some people are smart enough to realize that.

I had 200 miles when I complained to Acura Mission Viejo about the brake squeal. Took them 1 week to order new pads and got it replaced at 1100 miles. Drove it for 1 day with no squeal. Next day, it squealed again. Called them and complained and they told me that they will contact Acura to get more info.
