A-Spec Body Kit Questions

Picked up my new TL 6 speed/navi anthracite/ebony on Saturday. I did have the spash guards included in my price. I think the front end of the TL is a little bland compared to the rest of the car. Does it look odd just adding the front ASpec spoiler? I have a hard time telling the difference if a car has the side spoilers on or do these not change the stock look much anyways. I can tell on the back. I assume I would loose the rear splash guards if I installed the rear ASpec underbody. Just looking for feedback and just as important do you think any part of the Aspec kit makes it more like a riced up sports sedan. Unfortunately I'm pushing the big 40 this year and don't want to have a car that might give this impression as I do entertain clients. Thanks for your comments and pics of just the front would be great. Do most people install the underbody spoilers themselves or leave it to a professional? What is typical cost of 1, 2 or all three sections. Thanks

Talking a-spec kit

do it yourself so you know its done right. When i did installed it took me 7 hrs if i were to do it again it would take me half the time.

Welcome to the forums!

There are several members on here with just the front lip spoiler. Check out the photo gallery.

Most of your answers can be found with a quick search. Keywords "front only" might do it. Installation instructions are located in the 3G TL Garage. Check it out and if you think you can handle it, then DIY, otherwise take it to the dealer or a local shop.

Come-on Dude,

I'm 47 and have the full A-Spec kit, Ronjon 19" wheels and Drop 1". My working peers (I am Director of Distribution for my company) always compliment the looks of my car and are always eager to get a ride in it. You would be surprise how many old guys are into hot cars. My boss, the Chief Operating Officer, wants a Dodge Charger SRT-8 6.1 Liter v-8 hemi with 425 horses.

Here's a link to my ride:

I'm leaning toward adding just the front lip spoiler. The kit does look good from the pics I've seen here and does dress up the front end of this otherwise beautiful car. What I don't know because pics and the real thing can be quite different is can you tell visually that the front lip spoiler is an add on or does it look like the TL should have this on there. Looks de be a bulge where it wraps around the front bumper on the sides and to me this might make it look like an aftermarket spoiler. Thanks

The A-spec kit does not make the car look ricey. Besides, it's factory made and it's made for the car. It makes the car stand out more from the other TLs. I wouldn't get the front lip spoiler itself. Looks too weird without the side and rear. Just get the whole kit and you'll be all set. I understand where you're coming from, but this is just an option from the dealership. It's not like you're putting something aftermarket on it. The TL without the bodykit looks way too plain for me. I don't want my car to look ricey, so I just stick to the factory parts. Makes the car more authentic and clean!

Does anyone have a good pics or a link to a TL with just the front lip. I've seen a black TL on the site but it was hard to get a good visual. Thanks

Have you tried calling some dealers and inquiring if they have an A-Spec car on the lot that you can take a look at??

I installed the front a-spec myself. Was pretty easy. I would definitley recommend it---it is by far the biggest change for the car. I think that the side skirts and the back bumper is not that different...just my 2cents.

i live in a one Acura town and even drove 3 1/2 hours 1 way to buy the one I have because the rule of supply and demand applies to TL's. Got to go where there is competition if you want to get the best price. I even called Tim at Honda Acura World today to get his price and asked him 2 questions: 1) How does the paint match up on the anthracite since I have read here it might be a little off and 2) how does just the front look installed. He could not comment on either b/c he see's them in boxes all day but never installed. I'm just looking to see if there are people like me who like the current TL as it sits but wants to improve the looks for a minimal investment(I keep cars about 3 years and will never recover the cost of expensive mods like the full A-spec or new wheels and tires but $250 for a front lip is okay by me), and let me know what they or others say about their car after the install. From the pics I have seen it looks good but I also feel that a spoiler installed over the factory bumper after it leaves the factory might not look stock but aftermarket even though this is an Acura product. A seamless spoiler that is part of the bumper is ideal but this kit does not offer this option. So anyone care to share futher opinions or pics. Thanks

My 05 TL NBP only has the ASPEC Front Lip spoiler. Out of the 3 parts that make up the ASPEC bodykit, I liked the front lip the most. Not a big fan of the side air dams and the rear. However due to several dings on the rear which I caused myself from backing into my sis-in-law's old beater from parallel parking, I am looking into getting the ASPEC rear bumper which should cover the dings....oh well, live and learn!

I ordered the front spoiler from my local dealer today. I hope the Anthracite paint matches up. Will be on 6/19 the same day I'm having 35% tint installed all the way around. My local dealer matched the price I got from Tim at HondaAcuraWorld so if i have a problem with it i don't have to worry about shipping it back. I think it will make a nice improvement to the boring frontend. Thanks for the replies.

I had just the front lip on my TL for a while ... before completing the rest of the kit(sides and rear) ... it looked fine! The sides are a little hard to tell the difference ... but once you get the sides ... you won't regret it ... especially with the front and rear on. It's subtle and looks great. I thought I would just do the front, but ended up doing the whole thing to set my car apart from all the other TL's. Yes you loose the splash guards upfront with the sides on and you loose the guards in the back with the Aspec rear on. Having the body kit from Acura doesn't make it look ricey 1 bit. I have pics of my black TL with just the front on ... but you said you already saw that so I'm not posting my pics on here.

Good luck

Install the parts yourself! You can save $400 from going to the dealer if you do it yourself. It should take no more than 4 hours or so to do the whole thing. It's really very easy. I did the sides and rear myself. So glad I didn't pay someone to do that crap.

Has anyone installed the aspec rear bumper with only the sticky tape and not the screws? Why does the rear have screws and the front does not? How big of a deal is this?

Damn 7 hours. I did it in less than 3 the first time and that included a short break.

I am certain I could do the entire thing in under 2 hours this time around.

It wont stay on if you just use sticky tape. The front end also has snaps and some screws.

Wow.

Not true.... I installed mine without the screws, and it stays on just fine. I wasn't about to drill into my bumper. Just make sure you use all the other hardware. Installed the whole kit in less than 2 hours.
