Speakers Crackling With Bluetooth
Speakers Crackling With Bluetooth
It seems when someone talks back to me via bluetooth, the speakers crackle. Lowering the volume only seems to lower the crackling. Stereo sound has no problems, just when its in Bluetooth mode.Brought to Dealer, they hear it also, coming out of all front speakers. Any suggestions?

The sound that you hear is most likely some DIGITAL processing noise in the cell phone system, not in the car.
The car audio system is much better quality than the phone earpiece, so now you can hear it.

The early Sony Ericsson T610/616's had a bluetooth static problem. This was a well known issue amongst people that were anticipating this SE phone, and has been discussed in several cell phone forums (definately at howard chui).
I am not sure if an update to the firmware fixed all the bt static, or if it was a change to the hardware.

Re: Speakers Crackling With Bluetooth
Hmm. I don't have a Bluetooth phone yet, but when I push the HFL button on the steering wheel and say, "dial 5551212", the system comes back to me with a message that sounds something like, "No phones have been pared. Returning to the main menu."
The funny thing is that I do hear the crackling in the speakers during that announcement!
Does anyone have this?

Here are some links to howard forums where they discuss the bluetooth static/crackle problem:
SE T616 problems?
BT Crackle
T616 and jabra bluetooth static
New T616 firmware (might fix bluetooth)
If you do a search on the site, you can find more. Apparently most early adopters of the T610 have experienced the bluetooth problem. But not many T616 users have.

i'm getting that too...i have the T610 with Tmobile...it doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes...so i am assuming it's something wrong with the service from Tmobile...but what really pissess me off is the microphone...i find myself YELLING at the darn thing at times when it can't recognize what i say...i need to have them put a new microphone....but besides that, i love the system...very helpful....
Might be battery
There are a LOT of BT forums out there guys. Just do a simple search and you will find them. One issue with these newer cell phones is battery life. The batteries on these GSM phones are small (because they can be) but when they start loosing juice, the quality of the BT connection can get pretty weak (poor signal to the BT antenna I guess).

When I started this thread, some people are getting the impression that its like a static issue which its not. It`s more like if someone was talking into an over powered mic with an underpowered speaker. A crackle that happens with certain voice tones from the person speaking

What's the latest on this issue? Has anyone followed it through to a solution? Does the Siemens S56 do this?
I picked up a T616 tonight (3 of them actually), and am not happy with the crackling and the distortion (I get both). There are definitely two distinct issue - distortion and crackling.
Anyone know how to obtain a firmware upgrade to the T616?

Sprint T608
I just noticed this issue for the first time with my SE T608 yesterday. It was the first time I had put the phone into the armrest bin with a car charger connected. Depending on how I shifted, the location of my arm seemed to make the staic come and go.
I decided that it was me blobking the Bluetooth signal between the handet and the car. Does anyone know where the Bluetooth antenna is in the car so I can just relocate the phone there?
Thanks.

same problem
sounds like the speaker that the voice is coming out of can't handle the volume. works better when I turn it down but very frustrating. Anyone have tips on how to get a clearer signal
?
?
I have both a T616 (old firmware) and an S56. The T616 crackles and the S56 doesn't. Also, callers on the other end say my voice is clearer when using the S56. I've sent the T616 to have the firmware upgraded and should have it back soon. I'll see if the newer firmware fixes the crackling.

I agree with Danno and Audinomore: this complaint does not appear to be with the BT connection or a specific phone.
Those problems may exist. However, this sounds like the speaker is clipping or something in the speaker rattles when the party on the other end talks. Turning it down doesn't seem to provide significant relief.
It sounds more "physical" (clipping, rattle) than the distortion or echos previously described.

I too am going to send my phone out for the new firmware; to the same place as Tesla[/B]. I have the first version of the firmware(RA1054); I believe there have been 2 upgrades. I bought my phone on 28 November; you would think it would come with the newest version.
They say the new firmware helps hold a signal better; scrolls through the M-mode faster; and has Bluetooth upgrades. All will be welcome addititions. My phone gets the re-verb/crackling also; turning down the volume on the phone seems to help a little.

The updated firmware seems to significantly improve the crackling problem on the T616, in addition to providing impoved RF peformance overall. I think sound quality through the S56 is still better, but not by much.

Anybody know if a new T616 will have the upgraded firmware? I can always return the phone within 30 days I guess.

My SE T608 exhibits none of the issues described. People I've talked to from the car give me feedback that they can tell it's a speakerphone, but sound quality is fine, no problems hearing or understanding me from their end, and it always sounds fine to me. Since BT significantly accelerates battery drain, I usuallyhook it up to a power cord and leave it in the cup holder. Whether or not battery condition or phone location has an influence on sound quality, I do not know. I turned on BT on the way back to the car once yesterday, then forgot and left the phone in my pocket, made a call enroute, and it sounded fine also.
I do think the BT/HFL feature is an underrated, significant safety feature, particularly for a 6MT car. Anything that keeps a driver's eyes on the road at all times gets my vote.
