Someone hit me while in class

So I walk out today to find my passenger's door dented as well as the wheel well all screwed up. Worse, I find that there's a scratch about the length of the entire door about half-way up.

It sucks and the person who hit me didn't leave a not or own up to it.

I called my insurance company and filed a claim, but I have a pretty big deductable. Someone told me I might be able to get it waved because it had nothing to do with me. Any thoughts?

Also how should I go about fixing the scratch? Should I paint the door or just buff it as much as I can and just live with it?

my computer is a little retarded...so i can't see a picture if you posted it. But if not How deep is the scratch, can you catch it with your fingernail? If not, you can polish it out.

if you ever find this jackass, give him a good ass kicking... I had my car keyed once and I was able to polish it out. Try it before you invest the money in a body shop. Maybe get some expert advice. Pictures would help those members who understand body damage better help you.

That's a pretty bad dent for a parking lot mishap. File a police report as a hit and run and hopefully insurance will cover it, If they won't, time to find a new company.

Yea I talked to the insurance company and I get an estimated damages report tomorrow. The police weren't too helpful. They gave me this form and told me to fill it out. I guess they won't be able to do much to find the guy, but they weren't jumping to help.

Get a police report, Then your deductible going to be less because of UNinsured Motorist. I had mine similar , i paid $250 to get the whole thing fixed. Good luck with yours.

you can get paintless dent removal done, and the scratches may be able to be buffed out. Like I asked before, can you catch any of the scratches with your finger nail? If not, if can be buffed out using some good compounds. PDR costs about 50-150 dollars depending on where you live for the entire panel, in this case the door.

I had the same thing happen to me...twice! Once on each front door. I was pissed. If it happened now with my TL I'd want blood.

It sucks they just leave and you are stuck with the deductible. I hope you get that $ back, because the laws where I live it doesn't matter, I still had to pay cuz he ran away.

Thanks for all the advice. Got my estimate from the my insurance company. The total is $1334.47 less my deductible. The more and more I talk to people, the less likely it is that I'll be able to see my deductbile waived. Even if it happens, they're gonna screw me with rate increases so w/e. I'm just looking forward to getting my car back to the condition it was in. And I waxed it two days before this happened, go figure.

how can they increase your rate? PPL slam into my car 3 times (HIT AND RUN). My insurance never raise...YOu better get different insurer or even ask them cuz I am sure they won't raise you. And who did you talk to, your friend? or insurance adjuster.?

I wouldn't worry about your insurance raising up if you pay your deductible to fix that. I hit a deer and they didn't even raise my rates. Only if you have a history of doing this "a lot".

But to be honest w/ you. I wouldn't even bother with going to the insurance company. Repairs < Deductible.... probably.

That's reassuring, but the problem is that I'm a 17 year old male and they would probably look for any one thing to attempt to raise my rates. That's the opinion of my family and a few other aquaintances, I guess no of that really matters until I talk to my company.

I thought about that too but the estimate and insurance inspection quoted me $1334.47 for the repairs.

In a couple of days, take a walk through the parking lot... It looks like someone cranked the wheel too soon on backing out. I bet you can find the matching bumper on someones car with some paint transfer. What you do with that info after that is up to you

3 months old. I PAID $1200 to have it fixed. Insurance was $500 ded. and I am sure it

would go up. So I paid for it with my MAXED OUT credit card. I wanted to get a 45mm.

NO Idea who did it. FKN @$$HOLES...

See if there is a security camera on that part of the lot. If you can get the tape, you may be able to track down who hit you.

I just went through that myself -- received a large dent in the driver's side door a few weeks ago. The estimate was $1000 to replace and paint the door skin. Make sure you file a police report! Here in Maryland, unless there is a witness or there was some injury, they'll have an officer call you, take the report over the phone, and give you a case number. Give the case number to the insurance company and you should be covered by uninsured motorist (usually $250 deductible and it doesn't affect your rates). I even got a call from the insurance company a few days ago saying that I may also be covered for additional rental car compensation (my policy normally only provides $15/day for a rental car).

BTW, gotta give props to Nationwide and their Blue Ribbon claim service. I didn't have to do much besides drop off the car and pick up the keys to the rental (a brand new G6 GT). Three days later I had the car back. It's impossible to tell the door was ever damaged and the paint matches perfectly.

Nasty incident, looks like it fucked up a nice shine.

I agree with looking to see if there could be security tape for that area.

Yeah I went into our Resource Officer's office to look through the tapes, but the refresh every 4 days and just with my luck they refreshed the next morning.

My car goes in to get fixed in a few days, that's the most important thing right now.
