Not sure that I would interpret the contents of the article as genuine love. He makes some comments that came off somewhat negatively, as well. Such as:

"The car was more comfortable than a 3-Series, cheap to run, and is still plenty of fun to drive. I mean, up to about 7/10ths of its limit at least. Maybe 6/10ths."

Only fun up to 6/10th??? Doesn't sound so good.

"The 2004 TL couldn't keep up with its rear-drive German rivals, and the TL Type-S that came out later didn't bring much more to the table... leaning on red interior lighting and a negligible power boost to justify its "performance" badge."

Also doesn't sound so positive.

I personally still like the 3G, but, in my opinion, the car's best aspect is its styling. Dynamically, the 3G is more Honda Accord than anything else, though.

Sounds like you agree with the article. We all know the 3G isn't a "driver's" car like some of it's German competition. I also agree with the car as one that doesn't handle so well when being pushed to the limit.

With that being said, for a design that was thought of over 10 years ago (exterior/interior) it certainly has aged well. And, it's an extremely comfortable car to drive. I think the article is spot on.

Definitely a slightly tongue-in-cheek compliment, but I agree the interior+exterior styling is still beautiful, and 250+ HP with ~35 MPG on the freeway matches up well with many of today's newer models. Now that I've added the tablet computer, my TL almost the same technology functionality as well, without the crazy dual-screen that some complain about in the TLX. Add a $150 Progress rear sway bar, and possibly ASPEC suspension, and the handling is pretty strong.

I hope to be driving my 2005 TL for another 5-10 years!

The fact the next four cars listed were an M3 CSL, an SLR Benz, a Ford GT and a Ferrari 575 M Maranello casts the TL in a pretty favorable light, IMO.

And who gets 35 mpg highway? I doubt I could see that drafting a semi. I've touched 30, maybe 31 on the MID, but who knows how accurate that is.

Does the TL-S outpace the IS350 and G35??

They were saying this 61/30 nose-heavy wrong wheel drive car snow-plows like a mofu, lol.

IIRC, the TL-S posted a quicker lap time than the IS350 and G35 in this test. It was likely an anomaly that it beat the G. I can see it beating the 350. I've never driven an IS, but I hear they don't handle well.

The problem with the TL is that while you can certainly get it to corner at respectable speeds in steady state cornering with proper summer tires, a beefier RSB and some properly set up Konis, it will never transition in a fluid manner due to the fwd and weight bias.

I think they meant "the car is cheap to run up to 6/10th of its limit", as in it'll save more gas than the bmw if you keep it under half throttle
