Solved the drooping sagging shift boot problem with aftermarket knobs
so i figured it cant be that hard, i didnt want to superglue my knob to the ring, just cause i like taking off the knob to clean the boot.
if you look down into the ring you'll see the two slots where the stock knob clicks into...
those slots allow enough room to get the head of a small zippy tie to pass through, with some persuasion.
small 3-4" zippy tie is perfect...u don't want to go any bigger because the locking mechanism wont fit through the slots of the boot ring.
position the tie at the fattest part of the shaft and tighten. after, cut the excess off...make sure there is no slack or play once its tightened.
next, take a small skinny flat head screwdriver and finagle the locking mechanism into and past the slot of the ring. keep in mind...not the entire zip tie will fit past the ring, only the square part. see the two pics below.
once thats done youre pretty much all set. you can still move the boot up and down when u need to but there is enough resistance on the shaft to hold the ring in place without it moving. kinda like an interference fit.
and wa-la...reinstall your know and you're good to go
