I like al l but option 4, but I would have to see them illuminated along with the normal lights at night. If you do wire them in with the fogs, dont splice the power supply, use an add a circuit and relay. As for modifying the grill. Dremel. I guess you could use a hole saw too.

 

I did option 4, but nobody seems to like it, so as long as I like that's fine for me, hehehe...

Intro:
First I dont have an Acura at all, but my friend does. Like many, he wanted lower valance lighting, and thought that toggle switch would be an acceptible way of doing this. I thought better of it and like all my projects, wanted it to not modify any factory hardware that would void any warranties, and still look factory installed.

The completed project should take you about an hour or less. The end result will be lower valance lighting that activates when turning on your OEM fog lights. Also by following these instructions, you can leave out the factory light connection, and only have lower valance lighting (just dont plug in the light bulbs). This project will not alter any factory wiring, and will be a direct "plug and play" install.

Total coast of this project, not including the cost of your lower valance lights themselves, is approx $25-35, dependiing on if you have a bunch of connectors lying aroudn your house, or if you have to go buy them.

Tools Requred:
Philips Screwdriver
10mm socket/ wrench
Wire stripers/crimpers

Parts required:
KYO 9006/9006XS Plug and Play Heavy Duty Wire Harness Kit (1 Pair) 19.98 from prolightstar.com. This has an 9006 bulb (the factory fog lightbulb) male and female ends. One end will plug into your OEM fog light, and the other to your OEM harness..all "splicing" we do will be within this set harness kit.Get em here

Wire Tap-in squeez connectors. I get mine for Autozone, but you can pick them up at radio shack. you may also use other methods of splicing the wires, including just cutting, striping and twisting them together, but this is a much neater install for $2 http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

Wire..I suggest 14 guage. 2 spools, one red, one black. you'll need approx 6-10 feet of each (probably less, but we all mess up everynow and then)

Crimp on connectors (whichever type the leads on your foglights have) usually they're bullet connectors.

Electrical tape (optional. I put it around the connections to ensure nothing comes loose)

Lower valance lights

Any type of wire wrap etc (optional)

**Note** you will NOT be using the wiring that came with the lights. Your new lights will go through the OEM fuse for your fog lights. The fuse is 20amp, and should be plenty for most applications. If you blow this fuse regularly after this installation, check for any shorts within your wiring, then upgrade to a 30amp fuse.


Steps:

Attain all parts needed

Mount your lower valance lights. this determines how much wire you need etc.

Under the hood, remove the plastic covering from over the battery as well as over the windshield washer resevoir.

Remove the battery with the 10mm wrench/socket, and then remove the plastic cover over the air plenum.

Unplug your OEM fog lights.

Run the black and red wire from the OEM foglight to your lower valance lights. You may have to jack up the car to get under it. This is the hardest part. Just route them as to keep away from heat and sharp corners. Cut the wires to a length that leaves you about 4 inches extra on top (by the oem foglights) and bottom (valance lights), so you can have some room to work. You can tuck it away later.

Splice the newly run wire into the KYO harnesses that you bought. Match color to color. The wire taps make this look really clean, with out having to strip any wires.

Either crimp the connectors onto the bottom of the newly run wires (or splice them to your lower valance lights). NOTE: Most lights will have a black wire, and then either a red or white wire...the black wire always hooks up to the black wire. the other color connects to the red.

Connect the KYO harness to OEM light fog light bulbes (or leave it unconnected to just run the lower valance lights).

Connect the KYO harness to your factory harness.

Replace the battery, and test the lights

Admire your work for a few minutes.

Bolt the battery back in, put back all covers, and clean up.

 

Forgot to mention that the fog lights were installed behind the grill and are hardly visible while off. Also, please forgive all typos in the above post.

 

^^Excellent write up! Even without pics it was easy to follow, and sounds very simple.

 

In the next few weeks I will be installing Catz MSX lights onto either side. In fact, I have two sets. One set is gold fogs, the other is hyperwhite driving. I am going to mount these wide lights (the gold ones) on the bottom inside, and the hyperwhite on type. The gold ones will turn on with the fogs, and the hyperwhite will be on a seperate switch. I'll post more info when I get them installed. I am also making custom Brackets.

Not too jack the thread, but I just got off the phone with a Catz MSX provider, and if my prototype brackets work out I can mass produce them and sell these things as kits (barring moderators approval). Please wait a week at the minimum for them to be installed on my car to see what people think.

I have 3 sets (6 lights) on order. 2 sets of gold fogs, 1 driving hyperwhite. I got all 3 sets for the price of one.

 

Nice, I like #5 as well. That's what I plan to do in the next couple of months, but with e46 projectors.

 

#5. Gives the car a wide stance that looks powerful and low to the ground. The closer fog lights are more 69' Muscle car-ish i think.

bring this back to life! How do you remove the front grills? I tried today and seems like there isn't enough room to even put a small screw driver to lift the tabs around the grills.
