So which would you pick to replace your 3G?
As many of our 3Gs are getting older the thoughts of possible replacements crosses the mind from time to time. The natural progression would be to a 4G SH-AWD. But a NEW '13 Accord EX-L V6 or '13 Civic Si Nav can be had at a similar cost to a used '10 TL. The main issue with the Accord.. coupe only and no xenons (but a really sleek LED strip under the headlights is a plus). And the civic? Well, it does come in sedan, but it's a Civic.. am I crazy to be going there? The new look and tech for '13 plus the potential for higher MPG stood out to me.
Anyway.. if your 3G died tommorow, which would you pick?

Haven driven and owned 3 civics, and now a 3G TL, I don't know if I could go back to a smaller car. The comfort level and size, especially with a family of 4, the compromise is not an option. That being said, just about the only way I would go back to a civic would be for a full on project/weekend car and not a daily. I would have to say 4G or the new Accord for sure. But that's just my opinion. You have to take into consideration many things, the gas mileage would be hard to look over with daily commutes. Now that I think about it, this would be a pretty hard decision, all I can say if you are looking for something new, the best of luck.
Also, if you plan on selling the TL and you have any aftermarket parts and want OEM, I am looking for all kinds of stuff, so feel free to hit me up if you want to trade anything.

I'd pick the Civic out of those options, pretty sporty and quick and is very fuel efficient. If the only thing keeping you from the Accord is HID's that is a simple fix, they already have projectors in them.

I know this has been said thousands of times before, but I can't help but mention it....the maintenance and reliability of a Honda vs a BMW, to which there is no question. That being said, a G37 would be a good idea as well as a Lexus IS. I do have to agree with the OP, even though it has barely been a month in my TL, the smoothness and power of a bigger motor is something I don't think I could ever go back. Being that I am a diehard Honda nerd, I would try and find a 4G at a reasonable price or the new Accord.

Infiniti or the Acura.
Having driven and loved both, I couldn't imagine going wrong with either. Your suggestion into the Accord/Civic range is not wrong, but after having power/luxury, you never want to step down from it.

G37 sedan. IS is still too girly, 4G TL still too ugly, and the soul lusts after the 335i, but I'd be worried about problems. In the end, it's a toss up I guess between the G and 335i. I wouldn't know till it came right down to it.

do we have option D) none of the above ?
Honestly if that is your choice for a replacement then it not worth upgrade. If I REALLY need a car replacement then the choice would goes to 08-09 Lexus IS-F no BMW series can out perform a Lexus in term of reliability.

That 13 civic is not nearly as busy as a TL with nav.
I went looking at the 13 accords with my dad a few weeks ago and they look pretty nice. Have some neat features.
The accord touring has LED headlights versus HID. The LED strip is ok but they are just following what everyone else has been doing which is kinda lame.
Personally I would save cash and wait to see what Acura pulls out for the 5th Gen TL.
Otherwise if my 3G died tomorrow I would probably just fix it.

I have been checking out BMW 328i and Xdrives pretty hard. I've driven two of the them in the last month and WOW do they drive nice. Sooo smooth and balanced but the Acura is more reliable overall and less expensive to maintain. The newer 3-series are very reliable mechanically but just require more maintenance than Japanese cars. I'm really torn right now but if the TL died it would be a 4G (haven't driven one yet) or a 328i.

Out of those choices the new Accord is the best looking and can be optioned with everything the 3G has and then some, and is more powerful. 4G is still fugly to me I like it from some angles but head on or facing the rear I still wanna puke when I see it. The 3G still has enough value it's worth fixing even if you blew the engine and the trans at the same time, but I normally hold on to a daily driver a little over 2 years, maybe I'll wise up and hold onto this one longer.
Why not consider a Caddy ATS or CTS? I'm a GM guy at heart who bashes newer (last 10 years or so) GM junk but they have come a long ways lately.

if looks didnt matter, 4G.
if looks matter, 2013 Accord Coupe. That sweet SHAWD system is hard to pass up though.
No to BMW. It's "cheap to own" while it's under warranty. After that the car says BREAK ALL THE THINGS!

my father's 01 E46 325i broke all 4 window regulators TWICE now and the alternator just went bad. This car has under 60k miles.

More chicks drive Accords than IS imo

1. low miles 08 type-s
2. IS 350/F (depending on budget)
The Accord is nice, but no manual shifting for the auto tranny. The '10 TL AWD would be ok, IF you spend a lot on appearance mods/drop/wheels/etc...

For example, maintenance and repair costs are very low for BMWs over the first five years of ownership, primarily because BMW offers free maintenance during the four-year warranty. In fact, our subscriber survey reports that the BMW X3 is one of the least-expensive SUVs to maintain over the first five years, costing an average of just $279 a year. But BMWs are some of the most expensive cars to maintain over the long term. Once the free maintenance period expires, the X3 averages more than $1,100 a year in maintenance costs. The BMW 3 Series sedan also goes from having near the lowest maintenance and repair costs in its category to among the highest.

Damn, the IS wants to take your head off with the door frame. Still not as bad as the Prius V and its late-to-the-party side curtain airbags smashing into the back of your head.

OMG, a 12 year old alternator needed to be replaced? The horror!
And my window regulators dyed when my TL was two years old. Granted, they didn't go twice, but still.

If my TL died tomorrow I would get one of three drastically different cars:
1-S2000
2-G37
3-F150 or Silverado
S2k for drop-top fun and Honda reliability, G37 for tons of torque and a similar luxury setting, or a truck for tons of space for people and stuff.
Out of the cars you've posted, I would get the Accord. The Si looks great but has a bit too much "boy-racer" to it. The 4G TL has grown on me, I'm in love with the interior, but I would love to have a brand new car such as the Accord so I don't have to worry about how it was treated by the previous owner.
