Unhappy So I'm in the supermarket and....

hello all, this is my first post on this website. Names Jay and i recently purchased a '08 WDP TL-S. i have gotten a lot of information on this website i would like to thank you all.

anyway, im at the supermarket sitting in my car reading the installation instructions for the A-Spec kit which i also recently purchased. for some reason i look up, and i see it. a little kid ( didnt get a good look at his face ) had pushed a shopping cart ( the street was at an incline ) and it was coming straight at me picking up speed as it moved along. since iwas merely waiting for a friend i was still in the car and had my seatbelt on still, long story short. cart hit me square on the front of the car. this still hurts me its like i keep seing that scene replay in my head. is there anything i can do about this im not sure if i should go through my insurance, fix it myself, or what.

here is a pic of the damage.

Wow that sucks. Shoulda talked to the kids parents and made them pay.

Can you live with the damages? If not, file a claim and get it fixed. Doesn't look too bad and you're 24 so you shouldn't get a big increase in your premium.

yeah man thankx, well i didnt get a good look at the perpetrator as i was reading the instructions of the A-Spec kit, spoke to some officers they told me that this is not something you would write a police report for ( DONT KNOW IF THATS TRUE ?? ) the manager of the supermarket told me theire not liable for this since it wasnt an employee.

i can live with it, its just annoying. you know how it is, you work hard for something only for others to screw it up

sort of off topic, but how do add a signature lol

That sucks man. I would get it fixed if it isn't to much or just live with it for now.

Click "Settings" on the control panel above and select "Edit Signature" on the left of the page.

If I were you I'd get the camera footage and get there license number and file it with your insurance. An Asian lady left her shopping cart right where I was parking and the wind blew it into my front bumper. I made her go to the bank and give me $500 or I'd file insurance. She gave me the money even though the scratches can be buffed off.

one more thing, its not visible in the pic, but the biggest scuff going from the grille to the bumper cover is indented, i would say about the thickness of a generic straw you would use while drinking a soda.

So follow up with what TheChamp just said. See if they have cameras and figure out who it is. Do it soon too, by waiting you won't do yourself any justice.

EDIT-Park as far as possible from other people/objects, then these things won't happen

stupid parents. where is the leash when you need it?

i'm anal so that kind of damage would drive me nuts no matter how "minor."

depending on how "gouged" the bumper is...you might be able to buff it out, but more than likely its a repair (which runs about $3-500 or a complete replace, in upwards of $900-1K of course this is at a high end body shop). you could just live with it, but again i'm anal...my car is getting fixed.

most of us worked hard for our money and put a lot of love into our cars...so its up to you on whether you want to look at that as a constant reminder of stupid people (parents who let their kids play with carts). i'd shop around a little and see what can be done then decide whether you want to live with it. some people may come out and say...its just a car, for me its my property and i want to keep it looking good (pride of ownership).

also...park way the hell far away and at the top of the incline...yeah...anal.

Its a bit hard to tell the damage from just one pic, but it looks like the chrome strip need to be replaced. Try buffing the bumper out---at the least it should minimize the appearance of the scratches. Hold off installing the A-Spec until it gets fixed---no sense adding to your labor costs. Should you get it resolved (find the parents) and take it to a shop, you may want to have them install it as part of the repair.
Congrats on the purchase and welcome to AZ!

I would have got and put the kid in the shopping cart and launched it down the incline that you mentioned.

Sarcasm, but that really is unfortunate. I wonder if the A-Spec lip would mask it at all.

Wow, I would of been so pissed, especially having a brand new nice car like that. Without a doubt I would have run after that kid and just grabbed him and asked him where his parents were and I would of had him bring me to them. Then handle it with the parents and give them the ultimatum. Every nice car I've ever had something always happens to it...people that don't work hard for nice things will never understand. Unreal. Good luck, that really does blow tho man.

I think people were right about following the kid find out who're his parents. But don't blame yourself , I understand how you didn't make a quick and best decision at that time ( happen to me sometimes ).

Walking is a friend now thanks to this car.

How on earth would the A-Spec lip kit mask that?

That sucks man, that would definitely bother me and I would want to get it fixed. I think your paint got scuffed or even scraped off right above/behind the front plate bracket too.

stay away from the supermarkets! I had so many close encounters with shopping carts. ppl are just so rude they just push the cart away from their car when they are done and dont care where the cart rolls to

Hey Jay,
This Ish sucks and hate it when it happens. I couldn't live with it because one its on the front of ur car. Every time u walk up to it you will notice it. I would just go get it fixed. Also about the Signature thing, You have to wait 15 Days from when ur first signed up with Acurazine. From there you will get all the privileges like PMs, Signatures, Pictures, Etc

Check for cameras?!! Hahaaa that's funny! NOBODY gives a crap, no store manager is gonna look at video for a shopping cart hitting a car & certainly isn't going to give you the video. Tell the kids parents?! Haahaaahaaaa!! That's even more funny! Years ago I witnessed to indian woman push a empty shopping cart into the side of my car making a huge dent. I told her I just saw her do it & she denied it, I called the police & the cop said there was NOTHING he could do, my word against hers. What do you think this kids parents would say? "F" off & stop bothering us" that's what! NOBODY is honorable anymore in society, nobody cares what damage they do & cops have their hands tied.

Type-S A-Spec is a more than a lip.

Looks like its barely too short though.

It comes nowhere near the grill whatsoever. The Type-S kit doesn't come any closer to covering up that damage than the Base aspec kit. Do you see all the lines on his grill/bumper from the cart? I see the one scrape off to the side you must have been referring to, but there is a lot more damage than just that scrape, unfortunately.

yep, park cautiously at stores. The stores are not liable and its not a police matter if a cart hits your car.
And store video systems would never be able to get a plate# outside in a parking lot.....their camera's are more concerned in what goes on inside the store.

sadly...this is true..
only thing to do is just get it fixed and move on =/
if you guys really cared about your cars, you'd park far away and just walk.
regardless if its new or not

You should see where I park at walmart etc, way wayyyy out & I walk across the entire parking lot. Our local walmart is paved unevenly, at an angle, so carts come rolling down like bowling balls. The parking spots are too small too, people don't know how to back out or open their doors without dinging up other cars. Where I park my car is blocked by curbs & I've seen several carts flipped over & didn't hit my car.

You're kidding, right? You essentially stole $500 from someone for "damage" that cost you $0 to fix, AND, it wasn't even her fault since the wind blew the cart. Hopefully you're joking...if not, you sir, are a class A douche bag. :thumbsdow

Well it was her fault for leaving the cart there to be blown away, instead of putting it where it belonged. But yeah, it does sound like he strongarmed this poor woman out of $500.
