So im driving on I90...

and driving straight in the left lane passing an 18 wheeler and look down for a sec to change cds at 545am... then BAMMM, 3 pass side airbags go off as somthing absolutely ROCKS the car and the car is all over the road, shaking and not responding well to steering input, so i keep the car on the road and slow down gradually and make it over to the right shoulder and survey the damage. Im thinking WTF?? How in the world?? A blown tire wouldnt cause that much damage would it? So i change the tire and the wheel is completely destroyed, with a football sized hole right in it... Now im very confused. What could i have hit soo hard that would have destroyed my wheel and made messed up some pass side lower molding? As well as set off 3 airbags? What in the world? So there is this trucker that is pulled off the road ahead of me maybe 150ft after where i rolled to a stop... and he walks back to me and goes Hey, have you seen a driveshaft a few hundred yards back? Now i gotta get her fixed... anybody else hit road debris like that and had their airbags go off?

You should thank your favorite deity that the drive shaft went through your wheel, instead of your windshield....

WOW that is one freak accident indeed!
I'm really happy you're here to tell the tale instead of having rolled the car just from freaking out! I know that would have scared the crap out of me. I'm amazed you managed to maintain control and stop the car. CONGRATS.
There must be some sensor in the doors or side of the car that registered enough of an impact to deploy the side airbags. Thank goodness you didn't need them!

That sucks, but at least you aren't hurt and you know what caused the damage and hopefully have him on the hook for it.

That stretch of I-90 is brutal. My GF is from a few exits past there (Victor) and the amount of huge gross bugs are always a pleasure to scrub off after returning to Albany.

I had a similar running with a rock on my windshield, I thought it is just a pebble, then when I pulled over there was a mean crack along the entire front of the windshield
