So I need an oil change..
Should I go to an official dealer to get it changed so they can reset the oil counter? Or should I just save money and go to a local shop again? I imagine that going to a local shop would save me money, but they wouldnt be able to reset the oil % counter.
Thanks

BTW, I don't really have the time to do a DIY oil change if thats what you're referring to. I'd rather have someone who knows what theyre doing do it.

Ok thank you. I read the manual the night that I bought it, but I guess reading a couple hundred pages of information doesnt help when you're half asleep

Go to a place you trust and that'll give you a good price.
If you indie shop doesn't reset the Oil Life Monitor (or whatever it's called), you should mention it.
If they don't know how to reset the counter, what else don't they know - ya know what I mean?
For basic service a Honda dealer is also an option and may be cheaper than the Acura dealer. Here, the dealer rates are pretty fair (compared to regional/national chains) for Oil Changes.

Alrighty, thanks for all the responses. I was always a regular at a particular shop with my previous car, so I think I'm set. I'm just new to all of this maintenance reminder stuff.

I always use the dealer. They are cheaper then those shitty Jiffy Lube places and I trust them. I never do it myself since I have zero time on my hands.

Actually today I got my oil changed at the dealer, A1 service. This of course includes tire roation, inspect all fluids, function of the car, etc. They replaced a regulator on my drivers window for free that I didn't know was out as well. They said the auto-window feature wasn't working right. $134 bucks for the A1 service.
It just depends who you are and really what you're driving. It will be either you doing it or the dealer. I just feel more comfortable with the dealer than myself. I used to on my civic but I let the dealer manage this car.

15000 mile service
WOW, thanks for the info on this thread guys. I was about to get my 15000 mile service done in a few months at over $200!!!! All they do is change the oil, transmission fluid, and rotate the tires. When I got the qoute for it, the labor was $199! I can change oil and rotate tires in 30 minutes, but not too sure about the tranny fluid. So, how hard is changing the tranny fluid on these things?

There's no need to replace the fluid until the 3 code appears on the Maintenance Minder anyway. This is usually between 40-70k for most people. At that time, I'd do three drain and refills even though Honda only recommends one. The multiple drain and refills will remove more fluid.
If the fluid is brown, there's nothing to be concerned about. Fluid discoloration is normal.

Worth it since I'm in and out and I don't have those jiffy lube guys getting oily foot prints or hand prints in my car. Also since the dealer is doing it they log it in their system so god forbid I need prrof as warranty claim they have it right there.

Sorry, but no. At $139 you found out who the real screwologists are.
Dealer price for A1 here was under $60. It's Oil, Filter, Tire Rotatation and "24-point" inspection. PB paid $49. You got hosed (or paid for the window regulator).

WHY in the world are they changing the tranny fluid at 15,000 miles? That ain't right.

Drifting
i have mine done at the dealer but with a couple of arrangements:
-i bring my own oil
-i watch (from a reasonable distance)
-i inspect the car afterwards
so far, I spend about $15-18 bucks for the service+oil filter+peace of mind that its done right. they use my own oil and they get me out in a reasonable amount of time.
fair trade to me.

One on the right for me
Obviously the key is finding a shop you like. There are great places and shitty places, regardless of the name. I know a few jiffy lubes that do better work than the dealer, and visa versa. Just ask around.

Three Wheelin'
My dealers standard oil change price is $24.95.
20.95 with coupon
12.95 if you bring your own oil/filter.
This includes filing all the fluid check/pressure check.
Tire rotation I think I recall I price of $10 or $15.
I still do my own oil changes/tire rotations and most maintenance.

If you are going to advise people to ignore the manufacturer's instructions, you need to make it clear that it's your opinion and is contrary to Acura's directions. You wouldn't want it on your conscience if something went wrong.
Maybe you have a different working definition of "crush washer". Mine always deforms. It has a rounded side and a sharp side. The sharp side always flattens out when it is tightened down. It is soft aluminum.
For $ .25, I am not going to ignore the manufacturer's instructions.
