So, I bought an oil filter from a stealership
So, it's time for a first oil change on a TL. I've been changing oil on my other car (325i) for quite some time now, and a new filter always comes with three things: the filter itself, the sealing ring, and the crushable washer. These things come in a package, and are priced as a package.
Since the dealership is just 5 minutes away, much closer than any parts shops, I drove over there and asked for a new filter. $7.99 Great. I'll take one. The guy produces a filter _sealed_ in plastic wrap with a sealing ring and a washer. Then rings up the total, which miraculously has $1 added to it. I look at the invoice closely, and it's $1 for a washer.
WTF. It's not the amount of money that they charge for a washer that costs 10c, but the mere fact of it that pisses me off. The package comes as is from the factory. They did not assemble it from different parts. They got it as a whole at a certain price, yet they feel they can sell it as separates and mark up the price for that.
Seriously. Damn. What's next? A fee for printing out an invoice?

Haha nice. That's why you should just go to the autoparts store. That happened to me also and after that, no more dealership. If I need oem stuff i'd rather just buy it off the internet and pay shipping.

One on the right for me
I dont think Acura filters come from the factory with a washer on them. The BMW filters are different because you have the large rubber o-ring for the cannister, the really small o-ring for the thing that screws the lid down, and the brass washer for the screw. The crush washer for the drain plug is included in that. Acura doesnt need any of that crap so as far as I know dont put the washer in alone.

I've never seen a honda filter come with a crush washer, I'm on my 5th honda (2 bikes 3 cars)
Filter is shrink wrapped and the crush washer (if asked for) is scotch taped to the top.
Most dealerships I've gone to have told me that I dont need to replace the crush washer everytime. I do it anyways.
I've seen over $4 for a crush washer. Cant remember where that was, I did pass on it that time.

Thats not a valid comparison.
I've had my original washer on the car for 48000 miles. I'll change the washer when I change the drain plug.

I go to my local Honda dealership for my filters and washers. I pay $6.58 for the filters and most of the time they'll just give me the washer. But I usually buy a dozen and have paid 20 cents for the washers.

Not a Blowhole
The washer is a separate part from the oil filter - my dealer never charges me, but on the other hand, I have a wholesale account, have bought an NSX-T from them as well as 7 TL's.....
$1 is a fair price for a crush washer - this is no simple hunk of metal. Washers for other cars (like the Subaru Outback's 2.5L crush washer) cost more.

Because the washer isnt essentail to the oil change. If i have my oil and filter sitting in a box but dont know where the washer is I'm not going to waste my time trying to find it.

Because the one I'm using still seems to serve its purpose. Honestly, I'm lazy. I have my shop where I change my oil but I have to walk all the way across the room to get the washer out of the box. Then I have to take the washer off of my drain plug (which I actually tried once because I wasnt feeling lazy) but it didnt come off, which happens sometimes. Instead of trying to find some pliers and running the risk of my beer getting cold, I put the drain plug back in the pan with the original washer still on. If I ever notice that the washer I have on the car now is not serving its purpose, I'll change it.
