so the dealer cracked my windshield

so i brought my car in for service..(this thread)

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179397

i get in my car and notice the winshield is cracked. passenger side from the bottom by the hood and travels about 8 inches up and 8 inches towards the driver side. i tell the service manager and he starts to question if it was there before i brought the car in. i told him how could it of been since i got an inspection from you and there is no way i could pass inspection with a crack that big unless it was overlooked by the tech. atleast the manager agreeded with me on that one. then he started to question if there could of been a small chip in the glass before i brought the car in and thats what started it. how the hell would i even know that?!?!

he then asked if i had glass coverage and i told him no. he gave me his card and told me to call tomorrow and we'll clear this up. what are my options here guys?

i think the dealer will do the right thing. im unsure about the way glass is covered under insurance. i dont have glass coverage so does that mean im not covered at all? i also have a 1000$ deductable.

however, safelite.com has the windshield for 325$ and hondapartsunlimited.com has the oem windshield for 332$. doesnt that seem really cheap for an oem winshield?

thats what it cost- you can pay more if you want to~

This is why you always walk around the car noting any damage with the service writer when you drop it off
There are many ways it could have happened there.

No, it's not. Comprehensive and full glass coverage are separate coverages.

I would be pissed and wouldn't use my own insurance. Not to mention that it sucks to have them break the original seal to install a new glass.

Since they broke it I would try to get them too. Either way, whoever install it make sure it is a genuine Acura glass since they will usually give you an aftermarket unless you ask.

well the service manager called me and he is going to do the right thing and replace the windshield for me. i then asked him if this was an oem windshield or an aftermarket and he said its aftermarket and would cost about 400 as opposed to the oem windshield that would be about 800. i then told him to goto hondapartsunlimited.com and order the oem windhshield from them to save him some money since he didnt really want to spend 800. he was kinda baffled and said he'll take a look at the site. lol

so bottom line is its getting replaced by them but ill have to see which one we decide on. he said he wants to make me happy and keep my business so ill push for the oem part

With my last car I had the same problem. I took it in to get warranty work and I came to pick it up to see a foot long crack. They tried to say that it was not them that did it. I asked to speak with the distect manager and they fixed it right away. There was OEM glass to start with so that is what they dhould put back in. Good luck.

The dealership may have not done anything to cause it. I had a similar stress crack form two weeks ago while my TL sat in my garage. It started just about where yours did -- bottom of the windshield, went up about 8 inches, and then headed towards the right for about eight inches. There was no evidence of any stone chips in the area. My insurance (Nationwide) covered the replacement with no deductible. The glass that was installed was a quality aftermarket product (AP Tech) that actually comes from the same plant that makes the Honda glass. Other than saying 'AP Tech" instead of "Honda" in the corner, you can't tell the difference.

Its funny how when THEY have to pay for something, they consider aftermarket, but if it were YOU paying for it they would get you OEM cause it costs more...At least that's how I see it.

DanL Im sorry man but if the car is there its their fault. once it comes out of the dealer its not.. i dont care how it happened if its in there gettin worked on. i had them order me a new type s rim because one of them was chopped up with blue paint from their lifts that they use to store the cars when they returned the car and the jerk off who drives it was trying to hide it by parking the passenger side against a wall....i always inspect the car and test drive it with the mechanic before i sign out for it.

I'm not saying they shouldn't nor wouldn't cover the replacement costs. Just that they may have not done anything to cause it.

However, it's interesting that it happened after having the wiper motor recall done. I had the wiper motor recall done a week before my windshield cracked. Wonder if there's a connection or it's just a coincidence.

You do realize your monthly payment is based on the length of the note, interest rate, and how much you pay down?

The only variable with your credit is the interest rate. I think it would be more appropriate to say "they tried to stick me with 12% APR"".
