Question Smoke Chrome Trunk Garnish?

i have a chance to buy an 07-08 TL Trunk Garnish in the Smoke Chrome finish. I have an 04 TL, has anyone with an 04-06 changed theirs?

Would i have to remove the inner lining of the trunk lid to access how it attaches to the licence plate area? if it's that simple, i'm in to buy it, but i wanna know if it's worth it and the degree of difficulty. thanks

difficulty 3 out of 10.... tedious yes.... because u need to pry a lot of lil things to get to it and when u do the type s garnish, u need to chop it up and screw it in because the 04-06 has a diff config in mounting points.

^^ Agreed

The 07/08 trunk garnish is larger, so you would have to trim it up to get it into size. I would recommend just removing that whole license plate holder/reverse light section and just work that way.

I got mine yesterday.

Broke 2 middle tabs off.

Put some LOCTITE Double side adhesive in the middle where the center screw was supposed to go and then screwed in the two side screws! Looks fawkin sweet! Fit like a glove. I dunno why you guys are saying they are bigger.....same size. I took pics..but I drove the Z today. Got dem brake fixed and an ECU upgrade! Spanks the TL ..but I still love her!

How easy is it to pop off the original garnish on a 2004 TL? Mine has a bunch of damage from the magnesium chloride the put on the roads instead of salt here in Denver.

I was planning on just taking it off and sanding and repainting, or just buying a whole new piece from somewhere. Is it easy to take this off and put the original back in place? How is it done?

you have to

1. Remove your license plate
2. Remove Trunk Liner
3 Remove 4- 8mm nuts that are holding in the license plate holder
4. Use the back end of a screw driver and firmly but carefully tap the bolts that you took the nuts off of. This will release the plastic clips holding the license plate frame on the trunk.
5. Unplug the back-up light harnesses
6. Pull the license plate holder assembly off the trunk
7. 3 phillips head screws hold the garnish in the license plate assembly

Easy as that!

dude i have a shop... when i get tl's i work on them myself.....otherwise i get the guys to work on them....every single one thats come to me to have that trim replaced with the tl-s one has the same fitment issue.... so dont start telling me that i dont know how to do it correctly. tell that to some kid who doesnt have a shop. either that or u cant admit ur wrong....which is fine with me. on top of all that i had at least 3 tl's come to me in the past month where the people thought they had some broken part and couldnt get it on..... i guess they didnt know how to take it apart and work on it either.

Easy but time consuming I assume.

Do you know what part number the garnish is? I can't find it anywhere on acuraOEMparts. Would a dealership sell me only that piece? Or how successful do you think sanding my current one and trying to repaint it myself turn out?

switching from the 04-06 trim piece to the 07+ trim piece requires trimming....

part not available separate. You have to get it from the ebay guy...or buy the complete license plate surround from acura with it on it for around 200.00!
