What exactly is a slipping clutch? How can you determine that a clutch is slipping. I have a 2006 6MT and I am just curious about what it is and if I have it. Thanks.

when you press on the throttle and the car is in gear and it slowly accelerates but revs really high your clutch is slipping. or if when you are going into gear and you let completely off the clutch and it revs high and your car moves slowly then agian its slipping. there are a few other things but those are the main ones.

A slipping clutch is generally caused by either a malfunctioning pressure plate, a badly scored pressure plate and clutch disk mating surface, oil getting onto the assembly, or a damaged clutch disk. Yes, there are some other causes, too.

Now in almost all modern clutches, the clutching action is controlled by hydraulic pressure as opposed to cables or rods which were used in the past. Sometimes the hydraulic components can start to fail which can result in poor clutch engagement control. This can also result in clutch slipping.

And then there is the operator. You'd be surprised at how many people slip the clutch unecessarily or ride it extensively.
