Side Skirt Damage

Coming out of a gas pump there was a police car on the left on one of the exits, i could not go out that way, so i had to make a right turn, a sharp one, because there was a car in front of me and a car at my rear, taking my spot at the pump since i was done. Upon making the turn, i did not notice the side walk on the right side since my rear view mirror does not fully show the floor and in my front view i can see the side walk but when turning dosent not show the edge that was the corner on my right in my blind spot.

So upon the turn, it hit the right side skirt of the car and made a noise that made me shudder in fear, anger and sadness all at one time. I immediately stopped the car and maneuvered to avoid the edge of the sidewalk i did not see, some of the people at the station helped me out since the police car was still there taking care of another car that had problems. Once out, i parked and looked at the damage.

The side skirt was made in 2 pieces, so the back part of it was mostly that had the damage and was scratched and was popping out a but, the 2nd front piece was scratched a little but was in place.

It was my fault, a sad fault. Police was there, so could not make that easy exit, so i had to go the other way with the car in front, so to avoid the car i HAD to make the turn. And it ended up like this.

Does anyone know the price of the 2 pieces to replace and install? and suggestions in what to do? Dealer? Somewhere else? Any good advice will be appreciated.

Drive safely. :'(

Dude! What a bummer! You have my sympathy. I've been there and done that. I get angry with myself after the fact for not being cautious enough.

My only advice would be to see how much of the scratch you might be able to polish out with compound. That is plastic trim and I think the color might go all the way through? You might be able to remount it as well. I would ask at the dealer's body shop for some advice on how to try and fix it yourself.

Next, I would talk to the people that install the A-Spec kit or to customers who are getting the A-Spec kit added on. I believe those are parts that are replaced. I have watched them install those kits at my dealers. They toss the parts they take off into the trash. I have already recovered a couple of those exhaust shield inserts for spares. You could luck out and get your color for maybe a $20 tip to the right person in that dept.

Anyway, that's what I would do for starters. (After I was done crying and wringing my hands!) :buah:

Good luck.

Thanks Nodoze for trying, i wish it was the same color.

Ron, the list price is 415.00 and their price is 332.00. So if i was considering getting it fixed at my dealer, i would expect to be paying the 415 correct? Plus installation costs, have any idea on how much that would be?

This car is barely new, about 18 days into its life (which makes me feel worse), will they consider any of that?

Actually its $367-417. I didn't understand the picture because they don't give a left or right, so I thought maybe you had to buy both sides, which doesn't sound right.

Could you put them on yourself? They are held on by clips along the side and a couple of screws at each end. The service manual says to remove the screws, and pull on the panel. If you think you would want to tackle the job I could give you full instructions, or you could always get a service manual with the money you save on labor.

So its fairly easy to install? humm. Ill have to think about it, im not too pro on cars, knowing myself i might do something wrong and mess everything up haha. But if i were to install them myself, i would just order them from the dealer, take the delivery and install them?

Follow up

Anyone who got an A-Spec kit installed has these parts left-over.

I think Ron A asked what color yours is but you can always have them painted.

I still think you should be able to get them around back of the dealer if you talk to the A-Spec installers because they just throw them away. They belong to the car owner who usually doesn't want them.

I am assuming that you don't have the A-Spec on your car?

You might try a posting on the "Black Market" section of this Acura website.

They mount with plastic clips and (I think) double sided tape. Not difficult.

(Just trying to save you some money unless that's not an issue)

DaT1PiNoYduDe It Is your lucky day. I have a brand new Anthracite TL that I JUST installed the A-Spec kit on today and now have the side skirts for sale. They are in perfect condition and I would sell it to you for $ 250 shipped if you would like it. Just tell me which side you need. I have a premier paypal account and am a powerseller on e-bay under the name of thepcexpert24 for reference. Just let me know. If you want the set (both sides, I'll do it for $ 400 shipped) so you can have a color matched SET because each dye lot is different from one car to another . It is easy to install just so you know.
