i always look over my car after service at the dealer, and esp after ANY paint work has been done. oh course i'm really anal about this car. glad the insurance stepped up for you. hopefully, all goes well after the make over and the car will be practically good as new
I am taking my car to a body shop here in the area that is certified by Honda/Acura. I handed them the estimate that I had from the Insurance Company's "Direct Repair Facility". The guy said that they can work with that, plus I was able to get the newer front bumper face since they are the same price. I will be taking my car in on Oct 3rd and he estimated that I would get it back around Oct 21st. Plus they have to repaint the entire car, so I shouldnt have any issues with paint mis-match.

Also, I am dealing with all of this and my wife is in the hospital, she just had her gallbladder removed (she is fine, just in some pain), and my daughter is in a psychiatric treatment facility 2 1/2 hours from me (she is doing fine), and I have to deal with a stupid boss that cares more about "protocol" than people (some people just shouldn't be promoted to Chief (Navy)). But I am just taking it one day at a time and everything will be back to normal soon.

Damn, it sounds like you have a lot of shit going on in your life right now. Just take it one day at a time and I'm sure everything will work out. Good luck

Car is in the Body shop

Well an update for everyone about my car:

If you want to see the original post click here ====>Original

The car is in the body shop as of this morning. Looks like they will definately be putting in a suppliment. They estimate that they will have the car for about three business weeks, but may be longer. They are going to be tearing apart the car today to make sure about what parts they need. I will be going back tomorrow to take pics and see what they are going to put a suppliment for. I will keep everyone updated on the status of the car. I will be going in to check about every other day.

Three weeks seems kinda long to me, although they are basically removing every panel...what was the quote for the repairs??

8750, but they forgot some things. so the suppliment will add maybe 500-700 dollars.

perfection takes time...3 weeks is not unreasonable esp. with the amt of paint damage done to your car (every single panel). it took 5 days for just a bumper (but i told them not to rush...i wanted it done right so they took their time to make sure it was right).

your car will back as good as new when all is said and done, then you need to add spot lights, and a rottweiller to your yard to scare off the juveniles that did this in the first place. maybe even a security camara. just tell the shop of your expectations and hopefully they will come through. mine did and then some.

The shop already knows my expectations, plus they are the only body shop in the area that is certified by honda/acura. I will be taking my wife with me the day i have to pick it up. She notices things that I dont.

3 business weeks won't be so bad. my car was in the shop at one point for about 6 weeks and came back unpainted and missing parts (this was at jack daniels Audi in NJ) So believe me 3 weeks will fly by 6 weeks did for me sorta. can't wait to see the outcome.

Joker, I've merged your 2 threads together and updated the title of the thread for you. This way, you'll have the cohesiveness from one thread to another.

Thanks, I was thinking about just adding on originally, but decided not to, but also this reduces the amount of threads out there.

1Take a flashlight
2Go During the day + view the car in DIRECT SUN LIGHT.

+1^^ i paid so much attention to the paint work i failed in looking at the overall fitment of my bumper (its just a touch off, but the shop said they'd see if they can get it to sit a little better). also be sure to look over your wheels for nicks or scratches...i just found one on one of my wheels... after a thorough wash and inspection. hell i'd just make a checklist of items to look at when you get the car back (if i had to do it all over...i'd do that). hmmm...might make one just for when i take it in for service...

3 Weeks isnt bad at all. When my wife was in an accident I told the body shop that I didn't care how long it took as long is it came out the shop like new....with no corners cut what so ever.

It took them 5.5 weeks (to be fair, a trailing arm was damaged and it had to go to the frame shop). It looked amazing and it actually drives a little better now than before the crash believe it or not.

Really sucks what happened to your car.....some people have no respect.

I went today but in the rush to get over there i forgot my phone and camera. They have the car partly taken apart and i brought the headlights home to clean them up. They had the weather stripping off the roof, the rear passenger door windows were off, the tail lights, headlights, and front bumper. before i took it in, i removed the trunk lining, the rear "A", and the license plate housing becasue i did not want them to mess with the with the wiring i have going on back there for the HID reverse lights. They got the new bumper in but it was the wrong one, the parts guy ordered the 04-06 bumper, when i asked for them to order the 07-08 base bumper. the cost is about $5 less for the 07-08 that the 04-06. I ordered the grille parts for the newer bumper already. 3 weeks isnt that bad, this past winter i got into a bad accident because of snow and ice and they had the car for 5 weeks.

Pictures

I went to the body shop today and got another update on the car. They have already done a lot of work on it, tearing it down, and sanding down all the panels that needed sanding, but its not done being sanded. Here is the album, ===>HERE Estimated time of completion is still the 21st.

pics definately dont do anything justice. Found out also that they have to replace the mirror housing because they are unable to take it apart due to some clip that will be damaged and is unreplaceable. at least that is what they told me.

Another update. I went to the body shop today and found out that they had to add a $2500 suplliment. What pisses me off so much is that most of the crap they had to put in for should have been noticed by the people who did the initial estimate. Now its on the verge of being totaled and I can't be more pissed off. I have put so much time and money into this car and I now will probably have nothing to show for it.

Damn I'm so sorry to hear

That sucks dude. Hopefully they have put enough into the repairs so far that it is cheaper for the insurance company to just keep going.

For the record....supplemental insurance is a racket.

See the pattern here? they dont want to tell you the amount at which it's 'totaled' then the body shop keeps adding on supplementals to get around that total amount... thus they get the extra money and your insurance doesnt need to pay.

this body shop is legit, they are not an insurance company shop, the insurance company shop missed a bounch of items that they should have put on the initial estimate. the guy at the body shop told me he doubted that they would total it. but we wont know for a few days. they had to send the new estimate out to get another look. but hopefully enought money was already paid out to get tehm to approve the additional repairs

Talk to someone in insurance. When I was rear-ended they told me that the body shop works up an estimate and so does the insurance company. It's not just on the insurance company that missed items.

Either way....I hope they resolve the situation for you.

I was just saying that if the initial people made the correct estimate then we would already know if they would total it or not. Instead of going through all of the hassle of having a body shop already starting the work and then finding out that there would be no point in doing the repair. I could have already taken out all of the stuff that i put into the car.

I don't think they will total it after the body shop already started working on the car. If they did, then they would have to pay for the work that has already been done to the car plus write you a check for whatever amount you settle on.

Finally another update. The body shop sent in the $2500 suppliment on friday October 7th, yes almost 2 weeks ago. The insurance company finally sent someone out to the shop yesterday, the 18th. Come to find out the adjuster from the insurance company told the body shop that the car should have been totaled in the first place. Supposidly they get a crapton of money nowadays on car becasue the economy sucks, so scrap yards are making a killing on vehicles. 5 t0 6 thousand was supposed to be the amount, which sounds like B.S. to me. The adjuster came out to a total just above $11k. The body shop worked with the adjuster and insurance compnany and agreed to a total amount of just over $9600. When I talked to my guy at the body shop he told me that they didnt want to loose the job and he knew how much I wanted to keep my car. I am glad I went to this shop. If I used the other body shop from the insurance company, my car would have probably already been totaled, I seriously doubt that they would have agreed to a lesser amount. Now the new completion date is pushed a week and a half back because of the delay. I am now looking at a completion date of October 28th.

Oh, I see. Luckily it hasnt snowed here yet but it has been raining. While waiting for the insrance company, the body shop kept the car inside, they wanted to make sure that if the insurance company said ok, that they wouldnt have a lot of stuff to clean up from the eather. The inside is a mess due to all the sanding but they did have the window areas masked off so it didnt get too bad.

Glad to hear there getting back to it, hope all is well and they get it done by the estimated date. I may be wrong but I think what he was talking about was all the sanding being done having the dust get inside the car. I may be wrong but I think thats what he meant. At least when they work on it they cover up the windows.

Maybe thats what he meant, it is kind of early for "snow". But they have already told me that the entire car ould be detailed. From the engine bay to the trunk. So we will see here soon.

ok, maybe someone can help me out with a few questions. I am having them put on the 07-08 base bumper casue i wanted to add the lower fogs (I tried the accord foglight mod, but didnt like to end result). I chose the base bumper because I wanted to do the body kit and prefer the base body kit over the type-s. I am also having them put on the underbody side spoilers (they were half the cost of replacing with stock). My questions are, would the 04-06 front lip fit on the 07-08 base bumper (I dont think so, but wouldnt hurt to ask)? Also If i went with the 07-08 body kit, would the rear fit on my 04-06 bumper?

Hope this helps:

-The 04-06 lip won't fit the 07-08 base bumper because of the fog lights.
-The rear 07-08 A-spec kit won't fit the rear 04-06 bumper. But, it can be modified to fit.

Your best bet is to just buy the 04-06 sides and rear, and the 07-08 base front. That is doable but you may end up paying a little more by buying items separately.

You should do what I did; print out the price list from acuraoemparts.com and take it to your local dealer and see if they will price match. Pick up the parts and drop them off at the body shop. I saved A LOT of money when I did that. List price is usually about 20% higher than acuraoemparts.com.
