Should I start or not.

Hello all, I am a newer TL Owner (august09) and had a couple questions. I picked up my TL in pristine condition with 1 small scrap on fender for $12,500 and 91,000 miles (thought was fair price according to kbb). I am starting to think about doing some mods: exhaust, cai, j-pipe, pulley, etc... and was wondering if I should infest the money with this many miles or not? Or should I stay away from any mods/parts? I think this has been asked before, but couldn't find the thread/s.

Do it, cars are more fun with mods. Also the ones you mentioned are not hard on the car.

Since you just bought it (congrats by the way, good choice) make sure all the recalls have been performed first.

Then, save your money for now because your 100k mile service will be coming up soon and it's not cheap. That includes water pump, timing belt, accesory belt(optional), plugs + labor. Don't skip this service because the last thing you want is a broken timing belt. She has worked hard for 100k miles and deserves the attention. And since they have your car I would get a valve adjustment too. Valve adjustment could find some lost ponies. This is assuming you don't perform this kind of maintenance yourself and take it to the dealer for service.

Then once you have that out of the way you can start doing your mods knowing your ride is in tip top shape. IMO I don't think mods would be bad for the TL with any amount of mileage. They are so well built.

Welcome and Congrats!

My modd addiction started with a simple K&N CAI...
Also, NCTL05 just gave spot on advice. The 100K is not cheap. Make sure you got that covered before starting the money pit disease of modding.

Yes, I agree, it's an awesome hobby. Plus you learn so much more about your TL. Some good advice on the timing belt coming up quick. Take care of her before modding.

Question, could I do the 105k service know if I wanted to. I have only put 3000k miles on her since august (live 1.7 miles from work) and will take over a year to hit that mark. I also personally know the owner of the Honda/Acura dealership here in town so I get really good hookups (hence the price on the car) they are giving me the parts at cost and taking care of some of the labor costs so it won't hit me as hard. What does everyone think. Thanks for all the feedback. I will post pics of her this spring when it gets nice out. Should have a tl-s with her as well since my good friend help me pick her out and is also a member of acurazine.

I don't see any problems getting the 105k service early. Most people wait because
A)don't want to spend the money just yet. or
2)want to get maximum use from the the parts before replacing them.
I'm assuming you have an 06 according to your member name. Sooo..an 06 with 91k miles. Hmmm. Might as well go ahead and get it done then. It couldn't hurt.

do it right: get the required maintenance done first.

then go nuts on mods. I recommend the RSB and CAI to start.

and don't forget...

TL look is pretty timeless (the 3g at least, I dont think the 4g will age nicely).... so go nuts and bolts, TL will still look good 100,000 miles from now.
