Should I dump my 02' TL-S for 07' TL-S

I own an 02' TL-s that I bought new, but now has 83,000 miles on it. Other than that it's mint. I feel like performance wise it's just hitting it's stride.

The problem is I just bought an RDX w/tech for my wife and now I'm itching for a new car. I can't get the 07' TL-s out of my head!

What would you do?

I'd pay cash, so not a big deal.

The RDX is sweet! Feels like a sports sedan. I would take another, but is doesn't make sense for us both to have the same car. It's a chick car anyway. The women in their minivans just stare when my wife is driving the RDX.

Yeah that thing does look awfully like a chick car, it's still sweet though. If you have the cash and the itch to pull the trigger, go for it man. Trade your 02 in you should be able to get maybe 10-12K?? The 07-S is a handsome car with sporting pretensions

Isn't this question a no-brainer? Really, unless you have invested sick amounts of money or have some un-godly rare issue (can't think of one ).....why wouldn't you?

There's only one way to get rid of an itch. INDULGE!!!! Or take some money and do a mod to the 02. Maybe the itch goes away.

You have that car for 5 long years well 18 more months wouldn't hurt eh? I say put that money in your pocket and wait for the 2009 with AWD,3.5 V6(320hp), auto park assist, push button start,ect.. by that time you are ahead of the game.

agree with most here- money aside- see what they give you on trade and pull the trigger-you might get the itch again when the new 09 TL comes out though.

You are all are starting to convince me to do it.

I currenty have auto. trans in the 02'. I'd like to go manual in the 07', but I multi task in the car and shifting might be an issue. Would I regret getting the manual?

Without any incentives the % rates on loans are higher than what I earn on cash, so it makes more sense to pay cash right now. If there was a 2.9% or 3.9% incentive coming I would take that in a heartbeat and leave my cash earning over 5%. Anyone know of a new incentive coming?

I think there's some speculating going on here. I've spoken to Acura mechanics and they seem to think no awd for the tl. It's too much added weight. Also 298hp is about as much as you would want to squeeze out of a fwd vehicle. Who knows? At my RDX owners' clinic the dealer was talking more about Acura going diesel and then to hybrid.

Okay we are going way off topic here. Manual or auto on the TL-S? I was thinking carbon bronze with the black/silver interior.

as the previous owner of an 03 type s i can say quite confidently that the 07 type is worth the money. i traded my 03 for an 05 abp navi and couldn't have been happier. now that i have my 07nbp type s i can hardly keep the smile off my face. as to the six speed or auto i went with the auto. not sure either isbetter i just didn't want to have to worry about shifting in downtown traffic

auto i think these days the auto shifts just as fast as the 5/6 speeds... and you have ss mode and padel shifting if you want to rape the car a little

From a practical common sense pov, theres nothing wrong with your tl, hold onto it for another year and a half. Buy the next generation 09 model which will likely have all 3g's feeling dated (and every other luxury sport sedan driver) drooling.

If you want to row your own boat then get the manual tranny. I think you'll regret it for all the other times your NOT multitasking.

Multi tasking w/6mt

Multi tasking with the six speed is nearly impossible unless you spend a lot of time at stop lights. Close ratio transmissions mean you're going to be shifting quite a bit. About the only thing that I've found I could multi task with the MT is the hands free link phone. I personally enjoy the TL's manual transmission, it's one of the smoothest and nicest around.....and I've been driving manual transmissions exclusively for over 30 years. My advice, forget muti tasking and enjoy the ride with the 6 MT.

2005 TL six speed 30k miles

They had 3.9% financing back in december. Perhaps they will do it again at the end of this yr.

Now the question is... can you wait that long?

yea i would have to agree and wait till the 09......its not like ur car is beaten up or anything.....but then again if u got the money u can get a 07 tl-s now(lease or buy) and then in 2010 sell it for the new one......but i would say wait......speculation is that 09 is oging to have awd or an option for it i think it kind of has to b/c of the competition has it

Honda/Acura likes to wait and see what all their competitors do, then comes out and blows them all out of the water. I cant wait to see what acura has up their sleaves to kill the g35's, IS350's, and 335's.

It's a never ending cycle with cars. You don't think by 09 AWD 3.5 (300hp+), auto this and that will be the norm or even behind the times with competitors. Things evolve and if someone is in a situation where they can afford in the present they should go for it. It's like waiting to buy a flat panel TV, every couple of months to a yr a better model comes out. No sense in waiting because one will be waiting for ever.

I had an '06 5AT as a loaner and I think it changes the personality of the car from sporty to retirement. I don't see the point in spending the cash on the Type-S and then neutering it with an automatic.

a) he doesnt 'need' it
b) just because he can afford it, doesnt mean he should go ahead and get it.
c) theres such a thing as buying products (especially cars) smartly. Buying at the end of the month, buying last year's model, buying the next generation platform. It all depends on what your priorities and needs are. Evaluating his situation, my recommendation was that he doesnt need to buy an 07 now, and that the 4G is worth the wait. Sorta like waiting for the 3g back in 02.

The only risk to waiting for and getting the next generation is that it will be the first release of a new model and may have some kinks. Thats what warranties are for though.

My Honest Opinion Is To Go For It. When You Have The Money To Pay Cash You Should Lease. The Current Money Factor Is .00157 Which Is Equal To About 3.7 Percent Interest. You Lease The Car For Three Years The 4th Gen Comes Out And If You Like It You Buy It If You Don't You Buy Out Your Lease. Either Way It Is A Win Win. Imho

Honestly, no one on this board needed a 30K car. We could have all been content with a decently equipped 4-banger that is also reliable and less than 15K used. This guy obviously implies that financial restraints aren't an impediment. If he feels 18months is too long to wait for the next gen or doesn't want to try his luck with the 1st release he should go ahead and get the 07 TL-S. It's gotten good reviews from car mags. Not much different from the current 04-06, so reliability shouldn't be an issue. I was in his shoes when I bought my 05 TL. I had the money. The 06s where coming out late summer early fall but I opted to get mine in late spring/early summer because I couldn't wait and so far I don't think it was a dumb buy

I was looking at the same questions myself...i have a 2001 CL-S that i got new in Aug of 01, today it has 125,000 miles and has been a great car. But i just decided to bite the bullet and go for it, i pick up my new 07 NBP TL-S on saturday and i couldnt be happier...i cant wait for saturday to get here!! I went w/an auto so i can play michael shumacher or close my eyes and pretend i have a Ferrari 430! lol with the paddle shifters!

I dont think you'll regret it one bit if you get it. And as far as the 09 TL goes, we'll just have to see...no one knows anything at this point so take it for what its worth but you will love the 07 if you get it!

no one needs a 35k dollar especially the more expensive one but we all want it b/c we all love what they can do or look......i either say no go and wait or i would go lease and buy in 2010 at least if you lease it and sell you r02 that will give you a decent amount of money to pay for the lease.......

I'm not saying he doesnt need a 30k car, i'm saying he doesnt need to buy a car right now and his current situation can last until the next generation comes out. Buying the 07 or the 08 would be like buying a pc whos upgrade path ends in about a year or an old xbox a year before the 360 comes out.

The question he needs to ask himself is, when the 4G comes out, and if it wets everybody's pants and reads like a wet dream, would he want to trade his 07 in for it? If the answer is yes, then he should wait, if no, then go ahead and get the 07.

I guess it's a moot point. Sometimes purchasing a high price item has more to do with emotions than with logic. The prudent thing is always to wait and see what the new gen will be like but if he has a hard on for the current 07 TL-S then who's the one to ruin his fun.

Life is too short to drive an old car. My rule of thumb is a new car between my wife and me every 2 years. As a result, I don't keep anything more than 5 years. I will let the college students drive my used car. I earned my higher eduction and work hard for a reason. That's just my 2 cents.

My son is only turning 5 and I don't plan on allowing him to drive until he gets his feet a little wet in college.

actually, if you look at consumer report's repair history, TL's had significant transmission issues UNTIL 04 when the 3g came out.

Well i'll tell you what I did. I purchased the RDX for myself and loved it, but I couldn't get the TL Type S out of my head so I gave the RDX to my wife and picked out the Bronze TLS. I traded in my Volvo S80 T6 (twin turbo 6) I am very very happy!
