Short Throw Shifter and Shift Knob

Hi guys wondering for those of you that did a short throw shifter on a daily driver. Are you happy with it and did it make it a pain to drive every day?
Also there are some really cheap shifters on ebay is this what you got and how is the quality? How long did the install take and is it from top or underneath car?

Also Im considering getting a 09-10 shift knob from the TL to go on it. Will that work or do you have any other suggestions?

A short shifter will only make daily driving all the better. It's one of the first mods I do to every car I buy and is even better with solid shifter bushings. It installs from the top and takes maybe an hour or two. That shift knob would work fine but is pretty light similar to our stock one.

They have the same 6-speed shift knob as us. I recently purchased a package from Heeltoeauto that includes the Comptech short shifter, Corsport shifter bushings, and a 1lb weighted Maven shift knob. You also have the option of adding S.S clutch lines, but there is no point unless you have a higher pressure aftermarket clutch system. I have yet to install it so I can't give you my review on it but I have read a lot of positive reviews about it.

An hour or two huh seems pretty intense

No its cake. If it isn't then you might want to consider Modding bicycles or something lol

And I was being pretty generous with time frame. If you know what you're doing I'm sure its faster than that.

ball style shift knobs effectively shorten the shifter length.

I just got NRG carbon ball and it's sweeeeet...

i just installed CT short shifter took about 2.5hrs due to the fact on working on my 07 tl type s and dont wanna break ANY clips or scratch my interior. So i took my sweet time popping everything out with a microfiber cloth and butter knife. I did find it to be a pain in the ass just due to the amount of stuff you have to take off just to install the SS. All in all it worked out good nothing broke and feels awesome. Didnt get any bushings just did the CT SS.

FYI it's real carbon fiber (not a sticker) and it's uniform... those two strips are from the way the flash hit it.

Oh well, all the eBay ones are comptec. Like I said. I didn't think there was another kind. Those seem cheap. I hope they are complete kits.

Right now I have a CF ball shift knob too. I like the way the ball feels in my hand, but it is too light. Since it is lighter I have to put more effort into my shifting. I've missed shifts and ground gears more often if I get a little lazy. When I had the stock heavier shifter it never happened. Now I want to get a heavy knob. At least a pound.

Did you get yours from ebay?

Those might be replicas on there

and they didnt come with the bushings that sucks

For those that are getting ready to tackle this project...I have found a solution for getting your OEM shift boot to match up to your aftermarket shift knob. This fix is for a 100% OEM install / look. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I've had the Comptech SS for about 8 months now, and I would never go back. A weighted knob will make the feel better, but at $65, you can't beat the kit. I've been toying around with ideas for the shift knob, but nothing on the market is absolutely perfect for me.

FYI, the stock shift knob weighs 0.3 lbs... according to the local Chinese restaurant's scale.

You cannot go wrong with the SKUNK2 weighted knob at 440G. It feels great...

It can get hot...but sometime you have to make sacrifices. It's not like it is so hot you cannot hold it for a second. The heat will eventually dissipate away.

Comptech SS shifter mated to Maven is pretty sweet. You don't realize how long the stock throws are until you get used to the Comptech shifts. As far as other kits, I think Neuspeed makes one too?
