just curious....
in the autos, can u shift in and out of 1st and 2nd gear with the triptronic?

 

The automatic upshifts automatically from 1st to 2nd in the manual mode.

it only shifts for you if it redlines....

 

When I first bought my CL-S I thought the auto 1-2 shift would be really annoying. But after 3-1/2 years I find that it is OK most of the time. Under WOT it will do the 1-2 shift at redline. It will also down shift from 2-1 if you floor it. I use the SS mode >95% of the time.

i found that the 2-1 shift wut happen at WOT only if u were under like 4 rpms in 2nd gear.

 

Durring my test drive of the 04TL, I tried the SS mode (I am a MT person, so, I wanted to see what this was all about), and durring that mode, I left it in 1st (as indicated on the dash) to see what happened driving it like a granny. Well, I was shocked to see that it up shifted to 2nd on its own while not even exceeding 3K RPM's and not accellerating, just coasting / driving like a granny.

So much for only shifting at redline from 1-2????

I tried it several times btw, just to make sure it was not me.
