Oops, forgot to add.

Most people learn to drive a manual transmission from a family member or friend to whom they are referred to by maybe mom or dad. Well just because Uncle Joe has been driving a manual for years doesn't mean he knows squat about how to REALLY drive a manual transmission. My father-in-law drove manuals for most of his life and it used to pain me to be in one of his vehicles with him. I mean, the man defined the meaning of the term, "riding the clutch". And you know what? He probably thought he was doing everything right. Most people who use manual transmissions really do think they know what they're doing and believe they know better than the rest. Even those who sit at lights on an incline, holding their cars with the clutch and playing it back and forth , clutch a little, clutch out a little. They think this is how you do it.

Or people who downshift by getting off of the gas, clutch in, shift down, and clutch eased out. They've been doing this for years and this is what they know because this is what was taught to them. And then 40,000 or 50,000 miles later, they're replacing the clutch and take it as gospel this is what you have to deal with when you have a manual transmission. Then when someone tells them they should be getting 4 to 5 times that kind of mileage out of a clutch, they think that person's nuts.

Well, it's never too late to learn the correct way to do this. And it ain't all that hard to learn... really.
