Shift Knob

Shift Knob
I was looking through a Momo catalog & found many knobs that I really liked. Problem is they are all for a manual shift. Can the auto knob be replaced? If so what should I look for (thread/dimensions)?
Is it held in be a set screw? I don't have a service manual so sorry for the last question.

no the manual 3rd gen is the standard acura pitch thread
the auto tl's have a tiny pitch thread... the only knobs you can put on are the auto tsx, auto rsx, or the mugen auto shift knob
all the other knobs that are universal may or may not fit they come with little nipples you screw on the auto threads

Geezer, Vinnie and I both have the same knob shown above. When you replace your OEM knob with a Momo, the threads are not a factor. The Momo shift knobs slide on top of the stick. They are then tightened down with 3 screws that go screw into the base of the knob. You have to center the Momo knob on the stick and then screw in the 3 screws evenly onto the stick. I know...it might sound alittle much, but it was very easy to do. If you decide to get the Momo shift knob, I can write down the steps for you.

Thanks for all the replies. That Evo comes in many combinations. I have to do some research first but glad to know it's an easy install.

Yes....check out www.nycdashes.com. I got the kit with about 47 pieces in it. They have 2 sided tape on them and fit perfectly onto your OEM parts.

I think that the audi/volkswagen aftermarket options for shift knobs are the best looking ones out there. Too bad I can't get some of those replicated so the gearing looks like acura gearing and not audi/vw where the reverse is by 1st gear.

Here's a shot from a different angle.

Sorry, can't have it; I already got it.
There are two sets of set screws - a long set and a short set. Make sure you use the long set. Even then they are just barely long enough to get a good grab on the shaft.
I built the shaft with a couple layers of masking tape to make it easier to clamp down.

i liked the silver insert for the same reason as steven, plus it had the silver stiching which i thought added to the coolness factor....
make sure you make equal turns on the set screws so the knob is centered....its really easy to do, and took me all of 5 minutes to do and that was doing it twice as i didnt get the set screws equal the first time...

Help!
I tried installing the Momo today but ran into problems. I used the rubber adapter with the smallest opening. Instructions said to push all the way down. But when I do that the screws have nothing to clamp down on & fall thru when I tighten them. Is there a trick? I was thinking of shoving another spacer in the shaft before the one that fits to keep it lower where the screws are. Will that work or am I missing something?

After a short break to contemplate this issue, I figured out a solution. I used a rubber bushing I found in my parts box from another project. The bushing was a little smaller than the shaft so I had to work it all the way down to where the screws meet. I then put on the smallest adapter & worked it down all the way. The screws met the hard rubber & all is well.
I will post a pic when I get some time. Carbon looks great with black interior. Thanks for all the PM's.

What do you guys think of this one? (just to be different)
It's the F-16 EVO, titanium or aluminum with leather or carbon trim.

Working on it. Geez, how much cash you think I can burn thru in a week
I love the indentation for the thumb. Feels really nice in the hand. The stocker was way too small & slippery for me.
Also, the dark wood isn't as light as the pic reveals. It matches the knob better than the pic.
