Serpentine belt wear

Serpentine belt wear
Hi guys
i had my timing belt water pump and my serpentine belt changed on my 08 tl at about 180,000km. im at 220,000km now and my sepentine belt looks to be frayed a bit on the outside and the gaps in between each section of the belt are pretty wide. i also noticed metal shavings in the belt too from the pully. how bad is this? is this normal? i had it done at the dealership so if i should be hitting them up please let me know thanks.

40k km is about 25k miles, so no, it's not normal for it to be fraying so soon. I changed out my original at ~78k miles and it was ok, but it was turning a brownish/tan color and since it was cheap and took 5 minutes to change, I just changed it.

Remove the serpentine belt and make certain that the pulleys, esp. crank pulley, are tight and try and see what pulley has a bright spot to see where the problem might be.

i just got back from the dealership.. the service advisor said that it looks normal. a mechanic came by (who recognizes me from a a mutual friend) said that it looks premature and he'll change the belt for me and it would take him 5 min.
i'm not really looking to buy a new belt though. do you think i should send this over to the service manager? its been about 18,000miles less than 30,000km

Typically, if a pulley is off centre the belt will rub and wear out prematurely...you should also hear some squeaking coming from the belt.
A week or so after replacing my timing belt/serp belt and their tensioners, my crankpulley disintegrated, see picture here:

And there may be obvious wear on the edge of that pulley, producing the metal shavings.
Now, I have an RDX, not a TL. So, does the timing belt or the accessory belt drive the water pump pulley? the water pump (and pulley) was replaced. Is it in proper alignment with the other pulleys? was any other pulley replaced? remove the belt and if possible, carefully *look* at each pulley, checking for any sign of wear or damage. A pulley can also be 'cocked' if the shaft of the pulley is bent.
Finally, is there visible wear on the ribs of the belt? That would indicate a cocked (misaligned) pulley.

Mine has had metal shavings in it almost since the car was new. I don't know where they came from but everything seems normal. The wear on the edge of the belt is a sign something is off. I agree with others, get the belt changed and watch it for signs of the same issue. There should be no wear on the edges of the belt if the pulleys are lined up correctly.

What does that mean?
From *which* pulley? can you determine exactly where the metal shavings are from? Normally, wear on the edge of a belt is because one (or more) of the pulleys are not in the same plane - that is, one pulley is offset to-one-side as compared to the other pulleys. So, when the belt rotates around all of the pulleys, one pulley is out-of-alignment, and the edge of that pulley is wearing the edge of the belt.
And there may be obvious wear on the edge of that pulley, producing the metal shavings.

my mechanic buddy told me that the belt wasnt tight. (showing me a new belt and the notches on the inside were closer together)
i ended up just sending an email to the service manager about the sh*tty service over there and i wont be considering that dealership when i purchase my 4th acura vehicle. ..or 5th if/when i buy my girlfriend a 2004/2006 tsx. i miss my old tsx sometimes.
he emailed me back and asked me when's a good time to take my car in.
..a good time to take my car in was on tuesday when i drove 35km down there during my work day.
