Advancing to the TL Type-S
Greetings, everyone.
My name's Will, hailing from Southern California - but currently residing in upstate NY. I'm a long-time member over at SoCalPrelude.com (I'll give you three chances to guess what I drive, lol). Or used to drive....as I just finalized my purchase of a 2008 TL Type-S, a vehicle I've been wanting since its debut. But before I bring out the new girl, I thought I'd take this opportunity to say farewell to the old one.
In sunny SoCal...
...and one in not-so-sunny New York. It was after one of those crazy (well, crazy for a SoCal guy, anyway) snowstorms earlier this year.
My 1998 Honda Prelude has served me well for the past 8 years, from the end of high school through college and now to grad school. But she's growing old (getting onto her 15th year) and it was pretty much time for me to move up. So, without further ado, here's my TL-S (purchased from an A-Zine member, at that)!
Lurkin' from behind...
I already know a few members on here, and I look forward to learning from the rest of this community.

Very nice! I have owned four preludes, and loved every one. You'll definitely enjoy your Type S!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
Not sure if he was an active/regular member, but his username is markrsnthl. My compliments to him for keeping it in great condition.
Appreciate the tips. I've already begun bookmarking the maintenance threads for future reference.
Thanks! Yeah, the Prelude has treated me well all these years. It was my " attainable dream car" in high school. Eight years after the Prelude, I am fortunate to say that I've been able to own my next attainable dream car: the Type-S.
I'm 2-for-2! Perhaps the new NSX 10 years from now?
Haha, it's funny, because I really, really wanted a Type-S in Kinetic Blue. My second choice was NBP. I couldn't find any in my area that could even come close to matching what this WDP offers in terms of condition/price.
I thought I was going to be over white...but no. You're right. I'm really enjoying it. I suppose it's only appropriate - I'm going from a WDP Prelude to a WDP TL-S.

I rep the 714, haha. But like I've mentioned earlier, I've been in upstate NY for the last two years.
Honestly? I think the Type-S is perfection in stock form. I'm not going to touch it at all. I've had my modifying fun with the Prelude (and even then, I did not go beyond rims, exhaust, and interior LEDs).
Any sort of money I throw at it will be dedicated towards maintenance and upkeep. In fact, I am downright paranoid about potential issues in the future - and it's not just from what I've been reading on A-Zine haha. Fun fact: my Prelude used to be a 4-spd Sportshift A/T. I say "used to", because the A/T crapped out at around 90K miles - so I had a 5-spd transmission swap done.
In short, I have first-hand experience with Honda's SportShift autos and the issues that plague them. And once is enough for me. I know, I know, Honda/Acura has had a whole decade (1998 for the Prelude vs 2008 for my Type-S) to work out the bugs in their SportShift autos. But still. I cringe at the thought of my Type-S suffering the same problems (and I've only had it for a few days!). I've already begun reading up on tips to extend the 5AT's longevity. Any quick tips would be appreciated.
I really, really want this car to last me a long time.

Congrats on the car! Just take it easy and avoid stop and go, and the tranny will last longer.
I've heard doing 3x3's with some GM Tranny Fluid helps.
You should find out if 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches have been done, and if not, you can do them.

I definitely try to keep the stop-and-go to a minimum, but that's primarily what my driving is: commuting to work/school and back on city streets. My TL-S just cracked 54K miles, but I do want to get on the maintenance early.

Congrats bud...let the modding (and preventative maintenance) begin. I'd start with a complete change of fluids after a little reading around.
Exciting times but what are you gonna do with the Lude? That was my dream car back in the days but it never worked out. In some ways I still want one.

You know, I was originally planning to sell the Prelude. However, my boss just took me to a BMW track day (my first track day, actually)...and now I have been addicted to track crack. I'm considering of relegating the Prelude to track duty. Plus, the idea of the Prelude being owned/driven by someone after me doesn't sit too well (if that's weird?). For the longest time I've said to myself that I'd drive Prelude into the ground.
It's funny you mention dream car. The Prelude was indeed my "obtainable dream car" in high school, and I've been lucky to be able to get my hands on one. Eight years after owning the Prelude, I am very fortunate to say that I've been able to acquire my next obtainable dream car, the TL-S.

Greetings! I'm zipping around in Albany.
Haha actually, I really wanted one in Kinetic Blue. That color is just teh sex (so is the name!). Had no luck finding one, and Nighthawk Black really grew on me. The TL-S just looks so sinister with the black + gunmetal rims/trim. I had my eye on a NBP for $22K with 61K miles, but it sold before I could schedule a test drive. Then I wanted a CBP, but it was the same store as the NBP.
All in all, I like white, but I thought I was getting a little tired of it (since my Prelude is also WDP). But I really could not pass on this TL-S when it was posted for sale at 53K miles. And you know what? I was wrong. I most certainly not tired of WDP.
