Self Insure or Extended Warranty???
OK, here is my crossraods....This is my 4th Acura (88 teg, 2 different 2000 teg, and currently 04 TL) and have never had a need for an ext warr. on any of them...yet. I did the research here and on the net and with a $100 dedeuct. and the cost roughly $1300, one repair will cost me $1400 bucks. I have never put $1400 into any of my Acuras (for repairs anyways
) and want to know if I should drop the cash, or save for a rainy day? I know the engine or tranny will blow WAY past that, but what are the odds before 100k mi? The nickel and dime stuff I understand, but if those parts cost around $100 and I can install it myself, thats alot of broken parts. What advantages do you all think I would obtain by having an ext. warr.?
Roadside, I have AAA....they cover less parts (at least from my research) than my 4/50 covered (i.e. interior trim, plastics, etc....I have an 04 squeaky mobile)....and more. I do believe in ext warr on the right car, like my wifes Durango, but an Acura?? Any help would be great. Thanks

I plan to keep the car for 5+ years. I took one look at all the "Toys" on the car such as navi. memory this and that and dealt my dealer down on the price of an extended warranty. While I realize Acura has an amazing repair record stuff does happen and with the price of repairs I took the hit and paid for it up front. My deductible is only $25 per visit so it's not that bad. I was also sure to buy a warranty that covered EVERYTHING except "wear" parts.

Get the price of your plan and figure out what you would pay per day for it. Is it worth that much to you?
Cost to replace a computer is significant and usually an unplanned event. To me the daily cost is worth not forking over a large chunk of change right before an expensive planned vacation.

For an additional $1,200, I purchased the extension to 100K miles from Acura. I had an '01 CL Type-S, and after the tranny issue, felt that the peace of mind alone was worth the extra money. After seeing all the high-end features, and with my CL experiences, I felt it was the right thing to do. The more features a car has, the more chances for something to break.
This is the first extended warranty I have ever purchased on a Honda product. I had a '95 Maxima SE that I bought the warranty on, but never used.
I say all of this after having spent well over $700 on the wife's '01 Odyssey in the past year:
O2 sensor
broken rear a/c vents
rear hatch struts
rear door latch
That doesn't count the new transmission they just replaced under the special warranty.
I love the Ody, and really don't have any complaints. It's just that the $1,000 for an extended warranty isn't looking too bad right now.
