Thumbs down Second Gear & Syncro needs replacement

I took my TL into the dealer on Friday for my 7500 mile service, they kept it till 3:30, they preformed the service, fixed the headliner (i hope) and found out what was wrong with my second gear (it was popping out of gear and grinding occosionally). At first they couldn't get it to reproduce the probelm, then they tried it again after driving for awhile. They ordered a new second gear and syncros, when they come in I will have to leave it there for 3 days. Woo Hoo, 7500 miles and 2nd gear needs replacement, I hope Acura fixed their trannie problems from the past models.

Unhappy Sorry to hear this!

I have had second gear problems, but never anything close to popping out of gear. I just have occasional grinding or clashing of gears. Was thinking of changing the gear oil to synthetic to see if this helps.

How old is your car and when did this start occuring and how did it first show up?

Thanks again for any further information you can provide.

Thankfully it is a warranty issue, if I were you, I'd take it to the dealer ASAP. It started with the occosional grinding, then progressed to danerously poping out of gear unexpectingly with such force that it left a red mark (SMACK!) on my hand. My car had 6900 miles on it right now, symptoms started to occor at about 2300 miles and it's really weird because it only happens occosionally. BTW, the headliner come back down today, LOL, they put like 3-feet of velcro!!!

What is your VIN #?

I am the original 6MT Tranny Problem guy, and I have already had a transmission replaced on my '04, so I would appreciate as much information as you can give me.

If you run into any problems, I may be able to offer some assistance.

The tranny problem developed pre-delivery, and the tranny was replaced pre-delivery.

I have had no problems since.

There are several threads on this subject . . .

All I really care about is the general build #. My car was in the six thousands. What about yours? This will be the last five #s of your VIN, one of which should be zero if your car was one of the first 10k TLs built.

It is my hope this is limited to early cars and your experience is just an anomaly. And again, for those not familiar, my situation involved 1st gear, NOT 2nd gear. I was told it was a manufacturing defect that was limited to early production cars. They apparently had a screening process to try to detect them, but a few got through.

Since the car was delivered with the new trans, it has been fine for more than 10000 miles.
