Unhappy Scratch on Steering Wheel

While straightening out after a corner I felt a rough section on the wheel slip through my hand but dismissed it. Later when I inspected it I was dismayed to find a scratch and a couple tiny nicks where the surface was abraded. Not the end of the world, but the feeling of a rough spot is nagging at me every time I take a corner.

The longer scratch can't be felt by my hand unless I am specifically trying to find it but it is ugly. The smaller abrasions lifted the nap of the leather and protrudes ever so slightly. You should be able to see the nick if you zoom in a bit.

So the question is: What to do ?

1 - Shoe polish the scratch and shave off nick protrusions
2 - Do nothing + Buy a bottle to drown my misery (tried, doesn't work)
3 - Treat with Lexol
4 - Another method

I dont think you can do much. If it bothers you, buy the A-spec steering wheel. I think it looks alot better than the stock wheel anyway. Or many folks who have the A-spec would sell their stock wheel for almost nothing. Pm me if you want mine.

Hey triggle,
I Googled "fix leather scratch" and happened to find this site.
http://www.leatherrenew.com/

I know nothing about them but there was a question on the page http://www.leatherrenew.com/faq.html that said "I have a scratch on my leather steering wheel that I accidentally made with a key. What would I order from you and how would I repair this scratch?" So, it might be worth your while to check it out and see if anything there seems worth while. There is something called crack filler which seems like it is for filling scratches, cracks, etc.

Again, I don't know this company at all but it was odd that I hit on a question that seems like yours. Maybe it will all work out OK for you or lead you to another option

Good luck.

How about just buy a new steering wheel from ebay and putting it on? If I hadn't thrown out my wheel I would have given it to you for only shipping costs.

Good find Adobeman. They have one of the longest FAQs I've seen in some time. This will be very good if we need to repair upholstery that is not easily changed.
