Scratch on my windshield

Week three with my new 2005 TL and I get a small piece of debris under my windshield wiper (due to a passing tractor trailer) that scratches my windshield!

I turned the wipers off immediatley (wiper went back and forth only once). Scratch is not that bad but noticeble - scratch is a complete arc across the top of the drivers side.

What can i do to fix this?

you could get some rubbing compound and rub out the scratch... I *think* Road Rage had posted something about rubbing compounds, try a search, something might come up

Please let me know what you find. I scratched mine w/my wedding band while putting on RainX. I posted it back in July and was told that I'm SOL.

I hope not!

Griots Garage sells a glass polish. It will remove small scratches but requires a lot of elbow grease..Try using a buffer. Also, the local glass repair shops in my area also will fix scratches if they're not too deep. Most insurance companies will pay for the repair because the alternative is a new windshield...$$$$$$$ I've used the Griots product with good results.

JetJock, where in PA do you know of a glass dealer that will fix scratches. I am north of Pittsburgh and have called just about all the glass dealers. No one will fix a scratch. My scratch isnt that bad - I can probably live with it. I am hesitant to try and buff the scratch out myself. I might make things worse on my windshield.

I just got a scratch today in my windshield. Since all the snow in the midwest, there are potholes and lose gravel all over.

Anyway can I just ignore the scratch, or will it get worse over time? If I remember back, I thought someone said these things get worse if you don't fix them.

I was cleaning the windows in my 1 month old TL the other day and forgot to take my wedding ring off. Needless to say I got distracted for a second and ended up running my hand across the passenger side of the windshield and creating a 6 inch long scratch. Not very deep but VERY noticeable.

I tried buffing it out with rubbing compound but got no love on that. I found this message and immediately ordered the eastwood kit(linky )

It got here 2 days later. You just mix the powder up with a little water (1:1) and let the buff soak in water for about 5 minutes. Attach it to your drill and have at it. It just about completely removed the scratch in less than 10 mintues. Very easy. You cannot see it at all from the outside and can only see it very faintly from the inside if you're in direct sun.

Great product.

Sorry for not getting back to you faster with a reply. The name of the glass repair chain in Central PA is "Suzie Rowe." I'm not sure if I spelled it properly, but there is a chain of windshield repair shops in my area, all owned by this woman, Suzie Rowe. She does her own commercials and her shops do an excellent job repairing windshields. I've had them work on 2 of my cars in the past, one repair, one replacement, and they did an excellent job both times. They have some technique to fix chips, scratches, etc., using plastic to fill the chip or scratch and it's almost undetectable from a new piece of glass. Good luck, and sorry I didn't reply sooner.

you can always do this

you can say a rock from a construction zone hit it and get a new windshield secret message.

TL windshield - scratches too easily?

Thanks for the suggestions for getting light scratches out of a windshield, but has anybody else found that their TL windshield seems to scratch real easy? My 2006 has a bunch of small scratches from cleaning the windshield at a gas station.

I've cleaned windshields God knows how many times at gas stations, and never have I had my windshield get scratched from that sponge/squeegee thing.

The scratches are very light and only really noticeable driving into the sun, but this sure seems like a defect to me.
