scraping noise
scraping noise
i have a 2004 TL with navi and have about 3000 miles on it. i've noticed since i got it that it sometimes makes a scraping noise within the first 1-2 minutes of driving it. Occasionally, I think I hear it when I'm accelerating from a stop. It feels like it is located somewhere just below my right foot. Has anyone else had this problem??? Or does anyone know of a link that might have already discussed this issue?
Thanks
Thanks
The noise you hear may be the famous ABS "self-test" which occurs upon first starting the car and pulling ahead from a stop. Usually happens in the first 10 or 15 seconds of driving, and is perfectly normal. It's sort of a low pitch grinding sound. Try searching as there are lots of posts on this topic.
It is the ABS - covered in the manual. I am grappling to conceive of what else it could be.
Wait - he did not indicate anything other than the time interval. The cast iron rotors can rust up fast, esp after a wash, and then the brakes make a grinding noise when the pedal is first applied.
Both conditions are totally benign, and not worth a second thought. Enjoy the car!
