Scrape Car Bottom while parking

has anyone yet pulled into a spot (head in parking) with a curb in front of it, and went too far...

Then when you pull out, something under the car or the car itself scrapes the curb!?

This occaisonally happened with my old car as well.. It seems unavoidable when you really cant see the front of the car and you want to get into a spot good.. sometimes it happens.

Is it damaging to the car? Of course something is being scarped below, but as far as the car itself is this a problem.

My Honda Accord scrapes when I pull in with a curb in front too- So I have to be careful parking all the time- especially now that somone posted on here or on vtech that the TL wheels scrape easy against the curb when parallel parking as well-- When I get my 6MT I am going to be extra extra extra carefull parking it all the time therefore I will prevent any damage. What else can anyone do? Also they are saying on vtech that the seatbelt buckle hitting against the aluminum trim gets easily dammaged (scrapes & dents) when hit by accident while buckleing and/or unbuckleing- another thing to be carefull about to avoid damage

This happened to me the first day I got my car. We drove to the restaurant and I selected a nice end parking spot out at the extreme end of the parking lot, far away from any other cars. When I pulled into the spot I inched forward extremely slowly just to make sure I didn't scrape. I didn't hear anything. After dinner when I back out, however, I did hear the dreaded scraping sound. I couldn't see any damage or scratching, however. I'm not sure why there was no scraping going in but there was pulling out.

i have the body kit in my car and that happened to me once and i thought i scratched the body kit...but if you look under the car, there is a big rectangular plastic piece...that's what you probably ended up scratching, so it's no big deal (imo) becuase it's underneath the car and i think that the plastic is just there for situations like these...

That is FUNNY!

Same thing happened with me... I didn't hear ANy scarping pulling in.. Just pulling out.

I am curious though if the actual CAR is scraping, or like my last car had a plastic piece under there which draws air into the engine to cool it.. and that is what did the scraping (but I heard it in and out).

I am not worried.. I mean these things happen and it isnt like it should affect the car unlesss you do it all the time..

O am just wondering what scrapes.. it doesn't leave anything noticeable (well maybe if you get on your hands and knees and look under the front of the car lol)

Has anyone had any similar scraping problems with speed bumps? I have to go over even the smallest ones extremely slowly to keep from rubbing on my current BMW 328 (soon to be gone with a TL in its place, I hope).

Is the clearance on the TL a problem with speed bumps>

I guess the food must have been VERY good. :wow:

Here is a picture that shows what scrapes. It is either plastic or hard rubber. I used to have a car that had the same thing. So long as you don't hit it too often or too hard, it won't be damaged.

I have to crawl over speed bumbs with my E36 to keep from bottoming out.

Rest assured that there are other BMW owners out here that have to go like 0.5 mph over speed bumps.

I guess it doesn't help the fact that I lowered the car 1.5" !

Mine scrapes at the base of my drive way. However, I just back out at an angle when I get to the bottom of the driveway, that way I drop each tire independantly. That of course does not help the parking block situation. But I never pull up that close anyway. I've always stayed well clear of ANY parking block, large or small.

I think that is used to send air into the engine if I am not mistaken....

On an old firebird I had once, they hada rubber part like that.. it came of fin a car wash. Everything was fine but the car would overheat if it sat there too long....

They put a new piece in down ther emade of plastic...

If the piece on the Acura that scarpes is the same.. that plastic deflector piece, then as long as you dont break it off It should be ok.

I wasn't sure if the actual body was scraping.. I guess not.
