On a scale from 1-5, what would you rate Acura's prestige level?
Okay so I woke up this morning and decided to jump online and check out Acura's website and as I got to the website, before I could proceed to selecting an option on the site I was given a survey. Among one of the questions in the survey was where would I rate the acura brand on it's level of prestige. I personally felt that nowadays Acura's prestige factor would rest somewhere on the higher 2s lower 3s mark in terms of prestige, but say this was like 1994/1995 when they had cars like the Legend I would of rated much higher for the Brand's prestige factor, say around the low to mid 4s and in 2005 high 3s to low 4s. Now don't get me wrong I love the Acura brand and would definetely purchase another car of theirs in the future, but their current lineup and options seems so small and limited that it would be hard to see them as that prestigious anymore, although some prestige in the brand is still there. So what do you guys think? Where on a scale from 1-5 should acura be rated?

[QUOTE=CGTSX2004;14827217]Assuming that 1 is a Scion and 5 is a Bentley, I think Acura falls in at a solid 3, alongside other niche manufacturers such as Volvo.[/] Good point. So according to your theory we could say brands like Acura, Volvo, Infiniti, and Lincoln all fall smacked in the middle at a three, right?

OMG you mean you don't care about that social status people you don't know assign to you based on what you drive?!?! How do you sleep at night? Image is everything. I bought an acura so people would think I'm rich and influential.

Graf , I am the opposite of you and actually respect nj2pa2nc. I love the TL type S , but to me image is nothing. We sleep at night in peace. My peace does not come from material things, and I don't need to show or act like I'm rich. Most very wealthy do not have a need to 'show' it like you do in your TL.
I gave it a 4 because it is the nicest car I have owned, but I don't care about social status, hence I will never own or drive a BMW.

But you just said that you rate acura 1, yet you bought one because you wanted people to think that you are rich?

Well that's no fun, if you view cars as just a means of transportation. I always feel good knowing that I own a car from an expensive manufacturer and get excited whenever it is time for me to drive.

i chose my Acura's for my own necessities and wants not b/c of some status symbol. in terms of what other people think...who cares? you wanna drive "X" car then do so b/c it meets your needs and wants, not b/c you are trying to keep up with the jones'.
as far as what Acura's image is to the rest of the people out there? probably a 3 in the eyes of the masses since many of them don't have Acura on their radar or even know the brand exists.

It could be a '1' or a '5', and I really don't care- all that matters to me is that it's paid off, I enjoy driving it, it looks good (actually, very good), and it's reliable. It could be a Yugo and if it had the Acura's looks and reliability, I wouldn't care. Paying more for a label is (to me) ridiculous.

But for the sake of argument, I'd go with a 3.

In the past, it was hard to find a lot of the factors I wanted without moving into the more "prestige" brands, but in recent years, I am increasingly finding that mainstream brands are offering what I want and at a lower price, too.

Honestly, i'd give Acura a 4. A lot of people drive them, and know what they are. (At least where I live), and they are seen as luxury and "nice" cars. The most common Acuras where i live are MDX and RDX, but Acuras are a common "luxury" car, and i'd put them in the same lines as Infinity and Lexus.

Had someone ask me if mine was a Ford the other day. Told him it was an Acura and he said, "Oh, sorry." So I guess it is above a Furd. Don't really care what other people think, it is a nice, comfortable, good looking, reliable car.

Well to people who know little to nothing about cars, an acura will not tickle their fancy the way say a Mercedes would, but if we are talking about a die hard car enthusiast(like me) they would know that you owning an acura you are driving in something that is not your typical everyday Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.

Prestige? Acura? Ill give em a weak 3. Their current lineup doesn't match up well against their competition. I bought the TL mostly because iv always driven Honda/Acura's. There was sort of a familiarity there. Plus it was a new car that I could afford and I had been considering a TL or TSX for a while.
