Salvaged title question
Salvaged title question
Someone called me today with an 06 Tl+ navi. they sent me ton of pics and it has 75000 miles. should I even go look at it or just run. The pics all look fine but who knows. and IF i did go look at it what would I even Offer??
you should give us some more details. 5 speed? 6 speed? age/sex of previous owner? how badly do you want one [can you wait for something better]? what's your budget? modded at all? what has been replaced? why the salvage title?
personally, i wouldn't go for anything with a salvage title, but those are other things to figure out before making a call, and that's assuming you're ok with it being salvage titled

Sorry Duh I have a hard time getting past the words salvaged.
Its an automatic but did not say whether 5 or 6 speed.
there are no mods that I can see. it does NOT have aspec kit. they said it had front end damage but the air bags were intact. They also said they would pull carfax for me if I wanted.
I don't know I really didn't ask to much since it was salvaged title then an after thought made me question whether I should go look at it or not.
No idea how long I would keep it., untill i got tired of it and wanted something else lol

Yea I understood the age question. I would have the hardest time just coming up with an offer price on a salvaged title. Anyone have any idea what it would be worth to offer.
side note this may seem odd but the thing that bothers me the most about salvaged titles is not knowing what kind of personal injury happened in it.

A good starting point on value is about 75% of book if the repairs were done well. If you're not confident in your mechanical knowledge it's worth paying someone to inspect it for you. You can probably get it insured, but you won't be able to get collision and comprehensive. That means no bank loan. KBB.com will tell you how much discount you should expect for salvage title. I've had a salvage vehicle that was repaired correctly and it served me well. Once you buy one, assume you will be the final owner since no one else will want to buy it.
My TL is a salvage title vehicle. I knew this buying it but in any state besides NC this vehicle would have never been considered "salvage". NC's law is any damage that exceeds 25% of the current value is considered a total loss. Mine had extremely minor front end damage. All it needed to be fixed was a bumper cover, front driver head light, dash and the airbags. All of which cost me about $1500 to replace. I did all the labor to replace the damaged stuff on it. I paid $5500 for the car from the auction. Like others have said if you plan on keeping it till the wheels fall off go for it. If you plan on trying to trade it in or sell later down the road don't buy it because many people will not want a salvaged title vehicle.
On another note I have full coverage on my salvaged TL. So really depends where you live and what your states or insurance company's policy is.

A salvage titleis a form of vehicle title branding, which notes that the vehicle has been severely damaged and/or deemed a total loss by an insurance company that paid a claim on it. So yes, a salvage title can include water damage and erdoc48 is right. Never ever buy a flood salvage vehicle because it will never work right again. Get a carfox on any vehicle you purchase even if its a salvage vehicle that way you know the history of the vehicle and why it was deemed a total loss.
like everyone said, if you buy salvage title, you're gonna have to keep it till it dies, it will be very hard to sell down the road.
i had my salvage title rsx-s insured full coverage through state farm, when it got totaled from an accident, state farm paid out the value of the car as if it didn't have a salvage title.

One good thing about a salvage title is most states give a discount on your yearly property tax. I know there is quite a few states that do this. In SC they give you a 40% discount on your property tax if the vehicle has a salvage title. Just something else to think about when buying a salvage title vehicle. Save a little money every year.

Salvage/rebuilt titles aren't that bad, as long as you know th extent of the damage, get a good deal (thousands less than non-salvaged), and expect to sell it for less down the road. I bought and sold a salvage car recently. I would only do it again if it already had the title when I bought it. Going to the state patrol inspection with receipts to get it cleared for a rebuilt title was not fun.
Because it has a salvage title means that the vehicle is worth less then a non-salvage title. Kind of like how you get a discount if the vehicle has high miles and they give you a discount on the property taxes. Therefore states that have yearly property taxes give you a discount.
RUN! Run away as fast as you can! That car could have had severe damage, what if 20,000 miles from now it starts having electrical problems because it was in a flood? What if it had severe frame damage? I'm a insurance investigator & although I don't inspect cars I know of a company who buys salvage cars & resells them. Trust me when I tell you run away.

There was nothing wrong with it besides a bumper cover, headlight, dash, and 2 airbags. Total of $1500 to fix. Only reason it was deemed a total loss is because of North Carolina's laws which states that if the damage exceeds 25% of the current value including labor to fix it then its considered a total loss. Moral to this is do your home work. You can get some really nice cars for a great price that have a salvage title.
