Could have been a lot worse; Trailer hitches can do some damage. As long as everyone is OK that's what counts.

The insurance is leaning towards a total loss. They claim that it would cost them $6500 to replace the hood, radiator, condensor?, coolant reservoir, two headlights, hood lock/release and front pass fender.. I really dont think it would cost so much. I do not want to lose my TL..plus i did the clutch, flywheel, timing belt water pump, drive belt, tires, brakes like 6K miles ago and i have 89000 on my car...and i also have the 2013 navi dvd in it....

Guys... What do you suggest? Should i battle with the insurance to get it fixed? What are my possible options? Any advice would be helpful..

Theres no way that would cost $6500 to fix, but if insurance says its a total loss- take the check and buy the car back cheap- then fix it yourself

If it'll end up with a salvage title or one with a major accident on it, I'd let it ride. The mods done are small fries in the grand scheme of things.

How can it be a complete loss if damages are around 6500 Your car has to be worth more than 6500

My car was worse and it cost around 5k, almost 6. That was 3 years ago. If they say its totaled, see how much they'll give you for it and buy it back from them and get it fixed. Its really only worth it though if you have connections with someone who does bodywork.

Total loss is not 1 for 1...it's a percentage threshold where the insurance company feels that it's not worth putting x amount of dollars into x amount of rolling collateral.

So it may be something like a 65% cut off...so repair cannot cost more than 65% of the car's fair market value. In an extreme example...$6500 on a repair for a car that is worth $10001 dollars would get fixed, but not if it's worth $9999. In a lot of instances the insurance company will give you the option to choose which way it swings since it's a matter of a couple hundred bucks. They did with my EP3...I said FK NOOOO...total it. I was upside down $6k on previous trade in and had gap insurance. $100 deductible swallowed that up and put me in an RSX-S for $20 more a month payment. Win. Winning.

I agree with assessment but the valuation is crazy, which is fucking fantastic. Take the $6500 check and repair it yourself.

Also, you can repair the fender and you only need one headlight from the looks of it..

parts alone should be less than $1.5k

who do you have for insurance? i know some will only use aftermarket parts for repairs, while others will let you request OEM parts if you get quoted aftermarket. i know for a fact that State Farm will cover the costs of OEM parts.
