Actual rust pits in the tips, how uncool is that? Thank god it will be in the 50's tomorrow, I can give them the once over. Is this happening to everybody?

Others have complained of this. Should be covered under warranty.

Rusty Tip!

My tips are rusty too (just to be clear, I'm talking about my car).

I reported this to the dealership, they ordered a new exhuast system, from the cats back (including the mufflers).

Well, long stroy short, they decided to polished the tips instead and the dealer stills has the exhaust at the shop. I'm not %100 happy with the fix, so I'll bring up this issue again.

It should be noted that, you can't just replace the tips, like with past TLs so that's why some of the exhaust system itself needs to be replaced if they won't polish out.

Hmmmmm, when they polished the tips did they remove the pits or are they permanent?

Question

My Exhaust tips are also rusty already with only 1100 miles....

So is there a solution to this, other than taking it to the dealership and them polishing them for no use???

Thanks

I`ve used Noxon or Semichrome polish a couple of times and they look great. It turns out ,it has to be part of the regular "cleaning" of the car

I agree with danno - I've cleaned and polished mine and have had no problems with rust. I actually sit on a milk crate and wash/polish those underbody areas from time to time....anal, I know.

Question

I saw some rusty effects in my exhaust pipes, but not so sure if it's normal. Could anyone above saying Rust issue post the pictures for us?

Thanks.

it snowed here and the salt mixed with dirt and heat from the exhaust makes it look rusty. clean and polish and it should be fine. mine looks rusty too and its less than a week old. just don't let the salt stick on the exhaust tip too long.

The thing is, Vffr1 doesn't live in an area where they salt the roads. Last time I checked San Jose's been pretty snow-less!

So which one is better if i got one of these: noxon or semichrome polish... and should this solve the rust problem on the tips of the exhausts.

Per the dealer if the rust is as bad as mine is after only a couple of months you won't get rid of it.

They are most likely going to be replacing my exhaust when Acura finally owns up to the issue.

Mike,

I'll take an angle shot of mine tomorrow. I hope they come up with something, can you imagine what they will look like after a year or so? Ouch!

Nasty. The nice stainless tips on my old SVT still looked nearly perfect after 7 years. Acura needs to get on the ball.

Agreed,

Maybe SVT could show 'em how to supercharge these bad boys from the factory.

An SVT TL with 385HP and 360FT LBS...... ok, a guy can dream...

Angry

Thanks, Mike,

Mine has slightly less rust than your picture's. Your pic is really helping us to figure out.

I'm gonna ask my dealer to check it out next time. I never know I'll use rust warranty in first year... :wow:

Besides Vffr1, does anyone else have this back part replaced? I just want to make sure all dealers do the same work (from cats to pipes).

Thanks.

That looks pretty nasty, but if anyone doesn`t want to get it replaced, It still could be polished up with the NOXON or SEMICHROME. Inside and out.

Semichrome is more money, but NOXON works just as good.

Wait a minute. Is this due to defective parts/metal? Mine has exactly the same problem. Do you guys think that this rust problem will lead to a potentially bigger problem, like leakage of exhaust and make loud noise?

both of mine are showing rust spots too. I talked to the service manager about it but have not heard back...

He kept saying "well its an area with quite a bit of moisture which will result in the tips getting dirty". I had to keep correcting him and saying "yes, i understand, however I'm not worried about dirt....its the RUST, the RUST!!"

He did make a good point about ordering new pipes though....if he did, they would potentially rust out too...so they're "looking into it".

I don't know why Acura went with those cheapo exhaust tips. They remind me of the exhaust tips they use on the Pontiac Bonnevilles. They should have gone with a nice polished tip like on the TSX. The exhaust tips are probably the only part of the new TL that really turns me off.

I sprayed some WD-40 around the rusty ends. Now, the nasty rust is gone.

That's the worst looking exhaust tip I've ever seen! Spray some WD-40. I did.

Sorry to see these. If comparing with you, mine means nothing. I really hope your dealer could do something for your 4 months old TL. :o

In case your dealer couldn't see the detailsat the same day, bring your pictures with you together.

1/7 days going out day..
1/7 days it sleeps in the garage all day..

I'll go visit the dealer probaby on friday or saturday

Its looks like crap... I stand behind the car looks all yellowish/orangish..

DC5 Integra,

Did you park your car closed to Pacific Sea often??? Your office is not nearby the beach, right?

the colour inside the pipe looks all wrong...........like no exhaust is coming through....shouldn't it be much darker and sooty? It looks like someone sprayed water in it and let it stand overnight or a few days without driving........anyways not questioning what you are showing.........but there is no exhaust coming out of there!

You have to drive long enough for the entire exhaust system to warm up to full temp. Driving many short trips will rust out any exhaust system (including stainless). Best bet is to avoid lots of short trips in succession. Once the engine and exhaust are up to full temp, any moisture in the air is burned out. This is why you see white vapor on cold mornings. Once the car is fully warmed, you don't see it anymore.
