Rustproofing- Krown or Rustcheck

Any opinions on whether I need to consider rustproofing on a new TL.

I know the TL comes with a 5 year rust perforation waranty ... but if you're planning to keep the car for a long time ... does it make sense to rustcheck using a product like KROWN or RUSTCHECK that are applied annually.

Most rust problems don't rust through in 5 years ... so the warranty rarely comes into play.

Krown and Rustcheck use an annual application that gets good reviews here in Toronto where there's lots of salt. All the Fire Trucks here get treated with these products regularly and seem to last forever.

Comment from folks in northern climes would be appreciated

i did ruckcheck on my 97 CRV, and it works great, no rust until now. I bought the lifetime rustproofing from acura dealer for 700 dollars which I have to go back and apply the rustproofing stuff every 2 years. I think rustcheck costs about 120-150 with tax though

I never had it done. I read it some where that rust proofing is a waste of money...an excause for the dealer try to rip you off. I think if you are not going to keep the car for 15 years to 20 years its probably not necessary. If it start to rust after 10 years... so what it a old car by then.

What you have to think about is most towns keep their fire protection equipment up to 20 years. It might be prudent for them to purchase it, but I still doubt it. Somebody is recommending the application thinking that the municipality is paying for it anyway.

The rustproofing is still a gimmick and not worth it. Acura as well as other car makers go to great lengths to treat against rust.

Its depend on your climate .. here i think is a good thing ... if its a new car go with the 5years+ treatement.. and after 5 years go with 2 years threatments ..

I think all those dealer addons are all snake oil, and ways for dealers to make extra money on you. I never buy any of those addons.

Same here - just declined their "environmental protection" from the dealer. I've used Krown rustproofing in the past Their "drippless" top of the line stuff is about $120 per application. Where I live they have started using "liquid salt" on the roads and that stuff is down right nasty!
