rust spot on drivers mirror

Few weeks ago I noticed that a small rust spot showed up on the drivers mirror. I tried to use windex (typically I use it to clean mirrors and windows), but the spot is still there and I could not remove. Any way to remove it? Is this under warranty issue? My car has only 10k. I will follow up with a picture once I get back from work.

thanks

If it's truly rust, try a little CLR on it (if you have some around). It is supposed to remove surface rust deposits on stuff like chrome and ceramic plumbing fixtures, it should work fine on your mirror (I'd be careful with it around painted surfaces, however). Once you get it off, you should be able to determine whether or not the rust originated there or possibly somewhere else.

If it looks like something on the car is actually rusting, sounds like a trip to the dealer would be in order.

^ I don't know if I would try this and possibly mess things up further. Just take it to the dealership and have them take a look at it. If it really is rust and is a manufacturer defect, it should be covered

I guess it all depends on how big a hassle you consider going to the dealership is. My time is more valuable to me than that. For some folks, maybe not.

I had a similar issue. It may just be iron dust. Try clay barring it. Worked for me in a few areas.

Very true. Try doing a search on "iron dust" - I know I've seen quite a few threads on this issue, especially in the "Wash & Wax" forum. Seems to be pretty common, and clay bar is the consensus solution.

My suggestion was for if the spot was on the mirror (glass) itself, just to be clear.

I had the same problem, took it to the dealer and was replaced under warranty.

Its not rust, merely discoloration of the mirror. You see it happen sometimes as the mirror ages, but it should not be present on such a new car. Take it to the dealer and have them fix it.
