Rust on front grille/hood.

My 04 TL seems to be developing rust spots all along the front grille.

Specifically, all of the shinier metal looking parts of the front grille (including emblem) and the metal strip at the base of the hood. Has this happened to anyone else?

Is this covered under the manufacturer warranty? If not, is there somewhere online that I could purchase a replacement or would trying to treat it myself be easier?

Rail dust. Polish it off. Also look on the body panels as well. odds are its there too. Try using a clay bar first to see if you can get it off with that. If not go to a polishing compound.

If its rail dust clay will do it .. polish only cuts the tops off .. rust spots will return.

Check the detailing forum here .. I posted pix of rail dust there..

Thanks guys, I've never heard of that before. It just started happening since I've moved here to Denver from Seattle. Most likely all the plows on the roads. I'll stop by an automotive shop and see if I can find some clay to give it a shot.

I had the same problem with my TL. I had a rust spot that developed under the grille. I took it into the dealer and they fixed the problem. The dealer told me that they have a similar problems on the MDX, trunk hatch. Take care of it right away. I had my entire hood repainted and quarter panals blended in cause the rust spot got to big for just a touch up. I did not like the idea of repainting the entire hood but the local shop hired by the dealer did a nice job the second time after massing it up the first time.

If I have a 2000 TL with spots of rust around the front grille, will they do anything about that?
