RPM question

Hey guys,

The oother day I decided to gun my 04TL for the first time in a year, used the triptronic manual, and I think, actually sure I redlined the car in 3rd gear, after that I kinda noticed a little more humming from the engine.(or is it just me being paranoid). Also the next thing I dd after I parked was hit the gas and the RPM only went upto about 5000 to 5500 and would cut off, was checking for the humming sound. Did I screw something up, TL gurus any help would be appreciated. Oh by the the way I have an automatic.

Thanks,
Jake.....

in park, there is a revlimiter which will ot allow you to go above 5k rpm so damage will not occur in park. The humming noise should go away after a few miles.

If you hit the rev limiter in 3rd gear, and you hear a humming sound, that means you spun a bearing.

lol j/k, your probably just paranoid

the honda motor is a beast! You can bang that sucker on the rev limiter all day long. that is what it is there for. I have a modified 6speed with 80000mi and I have no idea how many times I have hit the limiter. You are being paranoid. when the automatic version is in park the rev limiter moves to 5000rpm. It may be 5500rpm, not sure. relax and enjoy

When you revv the engine too much your exhaust bearings will blow up, they will gernade and then that leads to blinker fluid leakage

sorry, I couldnt resist.

There is a system built into the computer- this is based on my 2001 TL problem- that is supposed to read the over rev- limit it??- and retard the engine timing,
Then it will throw a code for timing retarded

This is just my guess based on how they diagnosed my trans failure- engine retard code- since engine runs perfect- it meant trans had over-sped and read as engine

Worth pulling the codes. I get my car back tomorrow and will ask what the actual code number was and will post

Hey ubnpast
I used the sealed chevy truck center muffler bearing as you suggested and replaced the races and hand packed the new outer bearings with Redline thanks
