Roof Rack questions
I have a roof rack and cargo box from my Audi Allroad I recently sold. The width of the cross bars is the same for both cars as they are within 1/2" of each other width wise.
The cross bars are Thule Aero bars. I'm thinking about buying the mounting kit for the Acura TL unless there is much of a reason to go with Yakima parts.
Any current preferences?
I've done a search for past threads and didn't really see a comparison other than the Thule bars needing to be mounted closer together. Is this really true?
I adjusted my bars on my Audi wherever I wanted them. Just behind the sunroof for the front mount.

not sure on thule because I just purchased the Yakima kit used off of craigslist. Arent the thule bars square and not round?
With how pricey these things are I would just get the foot pack from thule for the TL. If you buy a brand new set of Yakima it will cost you close to 400.00.
Here are the pics of my yakima. Crappy iPhone pics.. dogh.. With the Yakima you can definitely space them out differently, jusst depending on what attachment you are putting on. I know another member moved it from what is recommended by Yakima because the way yakima recommends the spacing, it goes over the sunroof.

I would just get the Thule kit
Like stated above I moved mine front bar a little forward and the rear a little back. Also if you get the fairing the foam pads trap dirt in them and will scratch the paint, so go to you local sticker/sign shop and get some like one inch by one inch pieces and put them under the pads.

Does fine with my 40+ pound stinky

I assume with either way you mount the Thule rack the sun roof will not open.
I was able to open it with my Allroad. Of course it is a wagon so there was more room as well as the roof bars that came with the car gave a little more height.
Looks like I'll have to do without when loaded up for camping/cycling.
Thanks!

Great pics! I think Thule is superior in my opinion. Had some BAD experiences with Yakima. Care to share the models of the Thule rack and cargo container? Also, do you feel like that size is big enough?
My bad story with Yakima- I will say, that this was partially due to my girlfriends fault; she didnt lock the damn rack. So, 10 minutes on to the highway, the snowboards and skis fly off the roof. Total destruction of the skis. Luckily no one was killed.
While she didn't lock the rack, the yakima's were still latched down tight. They should have held instead of popping open on the highway. Made the switch to Thule, and it has not happened since. There have been a few times where the thule rack was not locked, but never popped open. My
