the rock meets my hood
on my way to work this morning a rock hit the middle of my hood. after parking the car, inspected and saw that the rock took the paint off the hood and its the size of a dime. do you guys think touch up paint will work or am i going to have to take it to a body shop and have it repainted.
need to get this fixed before the next rain or snow storm.

The above thread makes mention of a guy who sells OEM touch-up paint and people have had good luck with that.
Personally, if it's as big as a dime, I would take it to a body shop for an estimate. One would think that the body shop could do a good enough job of blending the paint and you wouldn't even notice.
Unfortunately, using touch up paint on a flat, noticeable area like the hood isn't the best of things in my opinion. Of course, money is always a factor too.

Depends if its just the paint, or along with a dent. How anal are you? If you want, try the touch up. It`s probably not gonna look any worse than what you have now. If you have to bring it to the next step, try getting Dent Wizard,Dent King, or someone like that. They do a good job on dents and can touch up too. They sometimes come to you. It`s better than laying your car up at a body shop

For spot repair on the hood the size of a dime, you will need to base and clear the entire hood. Touch-up paint would look really bad. If it were on a vertical surface, a body shop could do what is called a "SMART" or Spot repair where they spray the base, and then blend in the clear with blending solvent. However, this will leave a "bullseye" appearance on the hood - especially with darker colors.

If you need a body shop, Allston Auto Works (off Harvard Street just north of Brighton Ave.) repaired my S2000 three times with excellent results.
They do all the work for Herb Chambers.

I've got a chip on my left side pannel of the hood too. I do not think the clearbra would have protected it. It's too up on the side pannel of the hood. However, I too am looking at getting it installed.
richard1225, I think if the chip is of a dime size, you better take it to the body shop.

Danno,
Three issues
1 Factory defect covered under warranty (peeling paint where the bumper met the fender).
2 Me scraping the front spoiler coming out of a parking spot.
3 My neighbor backing his SUV into the front bumper, taking out a headlight for good measure.
