My TL supposedly defines the term ricey according to a good number of members.

Why dont we just admit that the term is a slightly racist descriptor of an import car that has been modified. While its broad acceptance and use has somewhat lessened its offensive nature it still bothers me personally. and please dont call me a bleeding heart liberal or accuse me of being to P.C. Rice refers to the fact that rice is a staple in most asian cultures' diet. Also the import car culture owes its genesis to 2nd and 3rd generation asian modifying their cars in california. As a short aside i wonder if it would be ok for asians to refer to modified american cars as bready or maybe wheaty? since those are staples of the american diet. I'll put away the pedestal now but please think twice when you use a inaccurate and maybe offensive term when you refer to modifications that some has made to their own car that you may not personally like. In short, stop calling stuff rice or ricey.

term probably adheres mostly to aesthetic mods done to the car, i.e. carbon fiber hood, rear wing (though some come oem), exhaust, underbody lights, etc. ive done intake and exhaust but retained stock appearance, while others choose to make their mods known...im not sure you can find a definition that will encompass everything.

Take a chill pill, and relax.

The term "rice" came from "riceburner", which is obviously in reference to the cars imported from Asia. Of course, it mocks Asian cars, saying they run on rice.

Eventually, the term morphed into a reference to modified cars that looked gay. And because it is our wonderful "tuner" culture to "tune" these imports, it came to describe cars modified with gawdy body kits, huge wings, big noisy mufflers, overdone paintjobs, etc. Today, it refers to all brands of cars, import or domestic, that are modified with the appropriate equipment such as listed above.

^ that doesn't look ricey to me at all. In some countries such as Taiwan, they have BMW M3 police cars in zebra pinstripes on the freeway. Instead of white stripes, the cops over there has them in orange. In any case, they are alot of rice boyz out there today but to each its own.
