reverse lock out on AT?

since the stock knob doesnt have a button on it, does it not let you go to reverse once you hit a certain speed??

ususally you can go from R to D without stepping on the brakes(on most cars)
but i noticed this car you can go from D to R without brakes also.(when i tried it the car was barely moving)

i think thats kinda dangerous if you make a sudden move on the road and suddenly move the shift knob by accident.(happened to me twice, but both times went into N)

anyone know if theres a lockout once you hit maybe like 10mph? obviouslt no ones gunna try it, but maybe someone has some info.

Cliff

On page 182 of the owner's manual, middle column, it says you can't shift into R when the vehicle speed exceeds 5-6 mph.

Ron:
Which sentence - please be more specific on your answers!

It means "Respond to the Fine Moderators".

The Shop Manual has a whole write-up on this - how the powertain control module (PCM) reads the VSS and prevents the reverse clutch/solenoid from engaging. It is used in other situations as well - such as when a genius operator using SS flicks it once too often, and picks 2nd gear when he should be looking for 3rd. The PCM prevents us from overreving and damaging the engine. Score 1 for the 5AT crowd.

In a nice way, I hope.

A very good definition though.

I didn't know you had the ability to post a message with only 7 words in it.

EDIT: And then you had to spoil it and add more words. But I am not changing mine. I saw it with my own eyes, even if no one will ever believe me. Only 7 words. Wow!

Does that have anything to do with the clang (metal) noise I get when going from Drive to Reverse? It's not there when I go from Park to Reverse.

It looks like no one has experienced this, or has an answer for you, or they are all worried you are not getting laid because of your TL.

It is time to go to the dealer and let the service manager analyze this problem.

By the way if you shift when you're moving you can stall (I've done it accidentaly).

Lets just say it was wet out and I found an empty parking lot.

Ron and Anyone else,

Along these same lines of questions, does the solenoid or computer have the ability to lock out the starter in case one tried to restart the car not realizing it is running (idling)? I know some cars have this feature for safety. No I am not going to try it....
Thank you,

Stuart
