I red-line my TL plenty. It's not going to hurt it. Unless you miss shifted from red-line. Like during a speed shift. Or hit the wrong gear, like tried to hit 5th and went into 3rd and dropped the clutch. Like the guy did that bought me 2000 GSR. He bent 5 valves. And to add insult to injury. The timing belt was just about at the end of it (safe) life. Bout 85k. When the mach. asked him if he wanted a new belt. About $75 part. He said NO!!!! Anyway don't be afraid to rev your TL. If you know what your doing......
And you keep it maintained!

Now with a manual transmission, you could put it in first at 80 mph and maybe blow something up.
Red line is way below the damage zone, running the engine at full throttle to red line likely adds a microscopic amount of extra wear, so you might only get 250,000 miles out of the engine instead of 275,000 if you drive like that a lot.
Tires and brakes will wear out faster...

My theory is it's good to rev the engine high at least once a week. Otherwise, why would VTEC kick in at 4,800 and the redline be at ~7,000? Revving into VTEC once in a while keeps everything lubricated and working.
Of course, wait until the engine is warmed up and oil has had a chance to get everywhere! Don't hit the rev limiter reversing out of your parking space. And be careful in the manual, missed shifts are NOT covered under warranty.

But Brett, you said "could put it in first at 80 mph and maybe blow something up." Did you read my post about my other Acura? Let me say that if you drop your TL in 1st at 80mph there will be a mess to clean up! And there isn't a rev limiter in the world that will help in that case.......
