Resetting MID when Oil is at 0% (2008)
hey guys i just got my oil changed and in the process of trying to reset my mid, but for some reason this time around it's not resetting.
i've done it before about 3 months back and it resetted just fine. i'm 100% sure i used the same directions that i read from this oil change DIY
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/d-i-y-oil-change-pics-3g-garage-c-004-a-599067/
here's a quote of what i did
so i pressed the button and went to this screen
than i held down the RESET button for 10 seconds and this pops up eventually
i hold it down for another 10 seconds to a whole damn minute and it still doesnt do anything.... i press the ^ or down button to make that screen go away and proceed to hold RES for another 10 seconds and it still doesn't do anything.
am i doing something wrong? i mean i'm following the exact same instructions i did the first time, but it's not working. could it be because i let it go all the way down to 0%? (the life indicator for the other oil change was only down to about 5%-15% when it was serviced)

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (THIS IS 1 CLICK BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE, CORRECT?)
2. Select Trip A or Trip B (You can use either one, so if you are using one to record data for something, use the other one to reset the Oil Life Indicator).
3. Press the < or > button repeatedly until the oil life is displayed.
4. Press and hold the Select/Reset button for 10 seconds. The Multi-Information Display will ask for a confirmation.
a. If you are sure you want to reset the display, press the Select/Reset button for 10 seconds again. (This is the part omitted from the manual.)
b. If you do not want to reset the display, press the < or > button to select “Cancel”

At least on the 04s (pardon if it's different in the 07-08s) but if that orange message window shows up you press and hold the reset for a few seconds to bring up the reset option.
dont navigate out of the orange reset screen. I just did it the other day on my 04.

I think with the 07+ you shouldn't have the orange screen. Toggle out of it but ensure you have the 0% on the screen (I can't remember but i think there is one toggle for just the oil life only with no trip monitor) get to that screen, ensure car is on and in park or neutral and hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds (until it brings up the reset prompt).
This is how it's done on our 07 RDX, haven't had to do it for the TL yet.

thanks all. finally got it to reset. thanks to the above posters.
this is what i did. turned key to II position (2nd click, car does not start) went through the mid to where it says Trip A or Trip B and also displays the oil life below the "TRIP". held the RESET button for 10 secs than i got that orange display again. this time i held the RESET button for another 15+ secs or so and it finally said something about maintenance and displayed press up or down to cancel or press ok to reset.
and to death, you're right. for my 2008 TL it's located on page 281 labeled "RESETTING THE ENGINE OIL LIFE INDICATOR".
thanks all

No, no, no. It's a legitimate question because for the people using synthetic oil, they wouldn't have to change the oil when the MID tells them to because it's configured for dino oil. I'm currently using synthetic for the first time, and have been wondering what I should do when my MID alerts me to change the oil

but if you don't mind spending the extra money and if it helps you sleep better then go ahead and stick with EP.

I've had a hard time too when the oil life is at 0%; the "service due now" message pops up instead of the "reset" option. Sometimes continuing to hold the button doesn't seem to matter.
Never had an issue when I did changes with more than 0%.

yeah, i was 2400 miles past 0%. when the MID told me to service my oil, i had only about ~5000 miles on the mobil 1 ep 5w-30 i put in, so i decided to drive another 2500 miles, making it a total of 7500 miles on that oil.

The problem with not following the MID is not the oil, it is the filter.
Most filters only last about 5k miles. Cheap ones last 2-3k.
If you're going synthetic, get a more expensive filter like Mobil 1 EP filter, Royal Purple Synthetic filter, Redline, Amsoil, etc...
