Resetting ECU makes me happy :)

turn the key to the second position make sure everything is off like radio ac and so on... take it out put it back in and then again to the second position and press the gas pedal for like 30 seconds... i do it for a minute just to make sure. Then simply turn of take the key out put it in and turn the car on 
and there you go

I didn't read all 6 pages of replies...only the first 2. I believe this does work like people say it does. And then the others that said it doesn't it probably didn't.
All it is doing is resetting your driving habits memory. The drive by wire system adapted to your foot and tried conserving gas mileage by using a little less power with the amout of pressure you're pushing on the pedal.
By resetting that, you go back to the factory setting of the thorttlebody blade opening much more per whatever measurement of pressure your putting your foot down.
You aren't gaining anymore power, you are just utilizing it much better (and decreasing your gas mileage) my

Nobody said anything about getting more power... or was concerned about losing gas mileage, they wouldn't be looking for the car to be responsive in the first place.
After couple of weeks, every time i do it i see the difference. The car becomes more peppy and more awake. Like the way you would on a high dose of caffeine

It is nowhere in the FSM, I think its a placebo working in everyones heads!!
From what ive read it seems as if the memory is more like a rolling average. The computer is constantly changing the setting as the car is driven. I dont see how resetting the throttle pedal is going to cause an increase in power.

Does anyone know if the ECU takes "Driver 1" and "Driver 2" into account? My wife and I both drive the car and I hope her driving style isn't getting blended in with mine.

My first thought was hey this sounds like the old nintendo cheat codes, but I gave it a try. Throttle is more responsive. Oddly though my fob were no longer synced afterwards, says I have to reconnect. Did this happen to anyone else?

just read the thread, just tried it on my 07 type-s AT, didn't notice anything.
still on the fence about this one...not liking the different responses, "yeah this works", "no it doesn't work"...so idk...i personally didn't feel any difference and i followed the instructions to a T. oh well...only took up 3 mins of my time.

) and finally decided to use premium as they should. The reset will clear the learned timing retard to prevent knock and open up some performance.

That is a good point. However, the reset procedure discussed in this thread would not make the ecu to relearn the knock retard. To make the ecu to relearn the knock retard, this would require resetting the entire ecu via a battery (or fuse) disconnect.

tried this before went to work this morning not sure exactly.... i think it feels more responsive but not sure if it is in my mind haha.... i usually drive my car 50 miles a day to and from work mainly highway cruising and it had felt like i lost some of that pick up and go when i floor it... seemed like that was back... ill have to try a lil more when i go home today after work

I have an 04 TL 6MT, bought it some months ago with 66,500 miles. I learned of this Throttle Body Reset Procedure (for DBW vehicles) through this forum before I even purchased the car.
I drove the car from MN to MI some 700+ miles without resetting and partial throttle was alright, but not as responsive as I thought. WOT was fine.
Few days after being home, I remember this procedure and did it out of curiosity being the new owner and the system not having adapted to my driving style. There was a noticeable change in partial throttle response. Since then under partial throttle the TL responds to my driving style better and that from a stop acceleration is smooth. Previously, it was jerky because it lagged on the accelerator pedal from a stop and through off my clutch/accelerator pedal sychronization. Made me look somewhat of a rookie, when I've driven manual Hondas for a long time.
So if you recently purchased your car or have never done this, try it. It DOES work for 6MT as well. Technically, you should only need to do this once, since it does adapt to your driving style and if you do not accelerate hard consistently, then partial throttle will be less responsive to accomodate.

I didnt read this while thread and will later but I would assume it has something to do with our cars being drive by wire. I know there is some threads talking about a drive by wire bypass or something that gives you the kind of acceleration you really want. Ill read up and post more when I get home.
I just did my 105K service last night and put on a lightweight pulley. I haven't driven the car yet except around the block. I'm gonna do a full reset by disconnecting the battery for a few, just to make my head big by making me think I gained a shit ton of power

haha its 12 AM and i just did a reset on my ecu , then went for a "spirited" ride , haha like a maniac i stepped on the gas till Vtec kicks in. It was pretty awesome. I did the 5sec-2 min reset , but i stepped on it for 7 not 5, just to be sure. When i started the car, it idled a little different but after 3-5 seconds went back to normal. pedal did feel a little touchy than before, but not as much as i expected according to everyone else. Then took it to the street and flored the gas, vtec kicked in a lot faster. response a little better too. Basically it felt like the car just shook off all the rust and took a redbull. I'll wait till a week later to try the other reset method. btw would this kind of ECU resetting work for getting the car used to weather change and stuff too ?
